5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
About a lilltle more than 3 weels ago I order EBC "Red Stuff" brake pads from autopartswearehouse.com and they still havent shipped. They claim they are on backorder and are being fufilled directly by the manufacturer. They've been saying the same BS for the last two weeks. I am now fed up with it and needed your help on where to buy new Brake pads. I am extremly frustrated because for the last week I have been unable to drive my car becase the brakes are totally worn out.
I am looking for the best ceramic brake pads that I could get money is not an issue for the brake pads.
Please note I need front and rear brake pads, both are worn.
Also was woundering if anyone knows what the stock brake pads are?
I also read the previous hreads and saw Akebone form tirerack.com is a good one but they only offer the front. Anyone have any idea where to find the rears form?
Also does anyone know the ballpark proce for replacing all four brakes at the dealer? I was quoted $450? A bit to high?
I have also purchased the Trinet rotors on ebay and wanted to let everyone know that they are of superior quality and will let you know how they perform once I have them on with my new brake pads.
Once again any help on this issue would be helpful

Why would you put EBC Red Stuff brake pads on a Camry anyways?
I've had great success in the past with Performance Friction brake pads, but they are carbon metallic and not ceramic/kevlar like the Red Stuff Pads.
What makes Trinet rotors of superior quality? How are you basing that judgement if you haven't used them?
Dealers "should" charge less than $200 per axle for a complete standard brake job which includes: turning rotors, pad replacement, and cleaning and lubing the caliper slides. If you have new rotors and your own pads they should only charge about 1 hour per axle.

Getting them for a Camry is the wrong application in my opinion.

Johnny that's the downside of ordering parts on the net after all. Especially parts you need RIGHT. NOW. Also there's the added hassle if they send the wrong parts, which they often do! Well enough about that, you live in Tarzana, which is not exactly the middle of nowhere, i'd just go to kragen and get a set of pads for $20 or 30 and be done with it. And i'd cancel my order with that company that seems to sell only excuses and not parts.

I don't know of any ceramic pads that I would recommend for a Camry. I really haven't done any research as I would not likely ever buy them for my Camry.
Factory pads function perfectly. As stated above, you might as well get those.
AGAIN, how do you know the Trinet rotors are of superior quality as you stated?
Do you by any chance know what kind of brake pads the dealer will give you and how much they should charge to install all four w four new rotors (I will be providing the rotors)

I was wondering the same thing. I've got almost 32k miles on my '07 Camry and my brake pads are still around 75%.
Must have been because of my driving and the fact that i went to the track a few times.
Does anyone know the average price per axle for a brake job by toyota i was guoted $250 and have an appointment for tommorow wanted to make sure im not getting ripped off.

What kind of track would you possibly be driving an '07 Camry on to burn up brakes that fast?
Thats typical for the dealer to charge that much. It is a rip-off, but if you cant do it yourself, then thats the price you gotta pay. Unless you go to a independant mechanic.

I'm missing something here perhaps, but here's what you do. First, actually look at the pads, front and rear, and see if they are in need of replacement. Even if the front are shot for some reason, the rear are likely just fine because they see little wear and should live the life of the car. Second, go to the dealer and buy a set of front pads (remember, you don't need any for the rear), negotiate a price about 10-15% below their list, take them to a local mechanic and have them do the job. It is just unimaginable to me that anyone would need to take the car to a shop for this work, especially in light of the fact you are replacing the rotors too. Figure less than 1 hour of labor.
