5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So i replaced my EGR Valve, and i got a mechanic to reflash the computer to get the check engine light off. The mechanic said that the EGR Valve is fine and Toyota was wrong by saying it needed to be replace, but there is some kind of Emissions code still showing up.
I'm going to go to Toyota and let them know and ask why they assumed it was the EGR Valve and why they were going to make me spend 600 dollars when it wasn't going to actually fix the problem.
I'm kinda pissed!! But not going to go in and overeact, I'll try the calm nice way first to see what kind of answers i get. I'm more upset that i've paided them 300 bucks just to look at the car 3 separete occassions and they kept telling me different things but no real answers. But when they said it was the EGR i though "wow, cool i can fix it this and get the problems resolved!" But that wasn't the case.

They said it was an emissions code, but not for the EGR..They said to get Toyota to run it again to get a better idea of what the problem is. So i will, but i'm not paying another 100 bucks!
I don't know the exact code, i think it's written down for me. I'll check when i go out to my car. The EGR Valve is brand new, and all the carbon is cleaned out i made sure of that.
Is the vacuum line going to the EGR valve broke anywhere? Trace it down from beginning to end.

If you play with yourself while working on the car, the repair doesn't count. You will probably have to start over again.
punks you can buy a basic scanner from harbor freight for $30 or 40. since you have the skill to change your own EGR valve you can probably figure out what to do next IF you have your own scanner. (mine cost me $30, it flashes the code 9 times then resets the check engine light, i.e. turns it off for you. Also it came with a list of what the codes mean and that list is also available on the net.).
If you're still stumped at least you now have your own scanner. Mine's paid for itself twice already, i used it for shutting off the damn CEL after i cleaned the throttle body, the light came on the dash and nothing was wrong.
