If you want a reusable air filter that has slightly less restriction, then get one. It's up to you if you want to clean it every year or two or just replace it when needed. If you decide to get one, keep your paper filter to use while your K&N or TRD filter dries. If you decide to get one buy a TRD instead. That way you won't get any crap from the dealer for it.

Replace the cabin air filter yourself. It's easy. Read the owner's manual or do a simple search.

Replace both yourself. Save $$$. There's nothing to changing either one.

Check the owners manual for info on number of months/miles for changing these filters. Thought it was 36 months/30K miles or as required.

I understand that Wix is now making a replacement cabin filter. They are kinda scarce. Otherwise, look on the net. I've seen some no-name somethings offered for about 15 bucks, but you can get them from the on-line Toyota dealer websites at a discount. Pull the old one out and look at it. It might be fine, but my experience is that theyget pretty dirty, pretty quickly. The hardest part is drfopping the glove box out with breaking anything. I've found that by stretchin it a little to the rear as I pull forward, I can pull the side tabs in juste enough to clear.

It may vary from region to region.....pollution factors, etc., but I have to change air filters about twice a year. No way mine would go 30K.

The AF plays a huge role in how well your modern auto runs. Don't let the dirt build up on them.

My first cabin filter went 7 months and 5 thousand miles. Full of dirt. Makes me wonder about all those other cars I've owned over the last 40 some years.

How to change the air filter?

Where is the filter located? I have a 96 Camry and a 2000 Solara. Anyone lend a hand? I cant seem to find the location on any other threads?

Air filter: Replace the too-short bolts with longer screws and some washers

Quote:

sixty bucks for an air filter? I changed my wive's 2001 solara V6 air filter for $10 for the filter. No offense but a monkey could do it. Pop two clips and the top housing is off.
On my 2002 Camry V6 its a little bit more complex but not much. It's a little tricky lining up the top cover and getting the screws in - those damn bolts they put on there are just too short! So i replaced them with screws and flat washers from Home Depot that are half an inch longer.
Ok i take it back - on my Camry the monkey would need a little training first.

just stick with an oem cabin air filter, but the TRD air filter is a nice, dealer friendly upgrade becuase it helps airflow and doesnt need to be replaced...and its TRD so toyota dealers cant make a scene about it

btw, did you see the filters yourself?

they might be dirty .... but i know Jiffy Lube employees will always tell you that your filter is dirty even if its not, so that they can charge you to replace it ...

i have stopped taking my car to Jiffy Lube because they suck, but when i did - i brought it in one week, they said the filter was dirty and needed to be replaced ... brought it in 7 days later, they said my filter was clean .... theyre full of BS
