5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Just wandering if anyone tried to sound proofing our car?? I came across a product called "Dyanmat". It is supposed to help keep noise out, and make our cabin quiter. I am not really sure if the gen 6 camry sound proofing quality is deteriorating or is the freeway making more noise. I sat in my friends gen 5 and it's so much quiter.
i mean, i for one, am not a "search the forum" nazi, but i have a post three threads above yours discussing sound proofing that this guy on car domain did. its incredible. the thread is called fyi. read it. do it. then post pictures and tell me any trouble you had doing it. i plan on doing this to my car soon..
dynamt is good but if u search for a product called Second Skin its actually better than dynamat and u can buy a bunch of it for way cheaper than dynmat.

yes, there are many other cheaper alternatives to dynamat. dynamat is basically a brand name stamped on your basic acoustical dampening sheet being sold from home depot.
go to homedepot or rona... there should be this stuff really similar, my buddy said look around the roofing area ?? im not sure but if you ask them they should know. Its basically like dynomat but alot cheaper
gen 6 is already so quiet. There is such a bid difference between my tacoma and my dad gen 6. and i did full sound deadening in the truck also. i feel i could fall asleep because it is so quiet in there.

ya raamat is good to, second skin is proven better tho than that and dynmat and cheap and u can buy like 30sheets for 150bux which is plenty lol but my opinion that is wat i got in my car

I'd say it's only worth it if you have a sound system installed, otherwise its not worth the hassle of removing the doors and such. Newer cars are well sound-dampened, all you'll do is make it unecessarily heavier.
Second skin would be a great application to go for, raamat is cheaper though, dynamat is just easier to find.

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/216257/9 <-- this dude sound proofed his doors RIGHT! 'peal and seal' is the name of the home depot product you guys are referring to. its hella cheap and if you do it the way this dude did it theres no way you could get a better sound proof. i think he said all in all it cost him around 40 bucks!
I've used Peel and Seal before, not the best product to use at all. If your looking for a simple easy job, then go for Peel and Seal, but if you want quality sound deadening, use some Second Skin or Dynamat.
If you want to decrease freeway noise, you'd have to apply sound deadening to the wheel wells and the floor of the car. You'd have to remove the seats and apply some to underneath the seats.

I went to an car audio shop yesterday, and the guy told me that I might have some warrenty issues if I removed the two front seats. He said the seat air bag might even go off if he were to remove the seats.
He wanted to charge me $240 for the 8 pcs of Dynamat Extreme and 60 bucks/hr for labor. He said it will take him from 1/2 day to 1 day to complete. CRAZY....
Yeah, that can happen. Even if you remove the doors yourself and you break something, warranty wouldn't cover that of course.
That's a pretty hefty price to put in dynamat. It should be a fairly easy job for yourself to do, especially for the doors and trunk. If you wanted to do under the seats, just do the rear seats and the front wheel wells and underneath the firewall.
