Australia AFE Air Filters

Hi All,

Was wondering if anyone has any experiencing using an AFE air filter (Advance Flow Engineering)? The one that I am interested in is this one:

Used K&N previously so wanted to see if there was an alternative...came across AFE and read around 12 reviews where the owners claimed a much more noticeble performance increase when he switched to the AFE filter from his K&N. Another owner claimed that his gas mileage actually increased when he installed the K&N...although, that never happened to me when I had my K&N.

A noticeable performance increase from one performance air filter to another?

I highly doubt that.

Personally, I would stick with K&N or TRD. There are both known to be of great quality and function well.

That's what I use and why anyways.

Very true. Okay, will go with the TRD airfilter then since its cheaper than the K&N offering.

If cost is of major importance you may want to compare costs of the cleaning and recharging kits too. TRD kits cost alot more than K&N kits.

It's just a thought.

or AEM dryflow, new style filter they use that needs no oil, they claim it does a better job filtering than conventional oiled ones (k&n and all others). they even have drop in panel filters for some cars, not sure if ours is one of them.
check it out

I have an aFe on my Mazda and its fantastic. Theres a company that makes performance parts for Mazda and was choosing between a few filters for their CAI setup. They tested the aFe vs AEM vs KN and went with the aFe. The aFe showed better airflow and filtration than both the AEM and KN. Also, when broken in (ie 20,000 miles of wear with dirt, small rocks, etc, on the outside of the filter) the aFe still performed better than the KN and AEM.

Just because its not the mainstream name brand doesnt mean it cant be better.

Unfortunately not. This is maybe in 2004-2005ish after the new 6 came out... they were working on an intake/fuel tuner combo for the Mazda6 because there were currently none on the market and were deciding what cone filter they were going to use in their setup. There was a lot of discussion on the boards about it and the company was going through their own tests to see what worked best..... unfortunately I dont have any hard data, I was just someone who participated in the discussion and prototyping, knew the testing criteria, and what the end result was.

Cost wasnt an issue at all, they were planning on going with whatever was the best filter and it ended up being aFe after months of testing in house and on the road. My car has dyno'd the same from when I first put it on until now, when its pretty dirty after 24,000 miles. I used to be a K&N diehard, but ive been exploring other options on certain products.

Just because no one has heard of the brand, I didnt want anyone to knock them or ignore them because they werent as mainstream as K&N.

On a side note, its pretty funny when you go from forum to forum. Im on here for alittle reading and background research on a possible project for some Toyota vehicles. It seems a lot of people have TRD and K&N on a pedestal here and on other forums, people laugh at K&N.

I remember them..can't think of their name. I gave them our Mazda3 S (2.3) for a week to make an intake (I'd get a freebie). They said CAI makes the car run leaner, so their programming wouldn't do anything. I bought an AEM for it after the waste of time.
