5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So, a couple days ago i went over to the dealer (Ron Tonkin Toyota-Scion in Portland, OR) to get my first oil change. Everything was ok, they pulled my camry out, i paid for everything, got my keys, I pulled ahead about 20 feet, and i noticed that my low oil light is on(!) I stopped and asked some 18 year old "tech" to check my oil level. When he pulled out the oil stick, it was completely dry!!! What happened is that the RETARD who performing the oil change, FORGOT TO PUT NEW OIL IN!!!!!!! As you can imagine, i was very pissed.
I'm not trying to diss toyota or anything. I love the brand, and I love my car. Its just everyone at this dealer was probably born stupid! Is it worth paying $35 for service like that?
Has anything similar happened to any of you guys? Please share.

well THAT'S PRETTY USELESS. cmon, would you really wanna go back and get an oil change (even if it was for free) when they JUST did one for money and forgot the oil?

I would bring the case over to the General Manger, tell him the problem and how sadly disappointed you are with the incompetent service your car had gone through, really go through the motions to scare him, if he asks you "how can he possibly, make it up to you?", throw it back to him and ask "What would a high power ranking person like you, would do?"
Bells gonna be ringing in his ear and he be thinking, "Well if i were him ill screw the people to get as much compensation as possible"... Now see the free car washes and oil change reduced to pea nuts once he gets his brain in gear!!......
You were stressed out, and god forbid if your engine suffered some minor damage from running dry, what if the warning light came on too late?... Get the most you can get out of em!!!
Cheap bastages! (Personally, i'd skip the next oil change from these idiots.) Sorry to hear you had bad luck and turned your car over to morons by mistake. Hopefully the damage was minimal as they only drove it from the bay to the parking and then you drove it just a little bit before you noticed. You ought to get some documentation, NOW, saying something to the effect that if the engine turns out to have been damaged its their fault - which it is - and they owe you a new engine! Might be worth calling a lawyer for a consultation or whatever cheap thing you can find for more info on this because, replacement engines are NOT cheap.
I change my own oil, always have, for 30 years. amazingly, i've never had this problem. (I always put the new bottles of oil on the drivers seat as a reminder NOT to forget to add the oil.)
Consulting a lawyer so early on without going through toyota management would be a little premature and costly for some problem that may be negligable, there may or may not be a problem. And the all too important ingredient isnt there "yet", which is "Proof of damage due to negligence".
The car is still in tact, if engine falls to pieces tomorrow, then Yeah, you have a good case. Common sense is best at this time.
