i'm new here and have found this forum very informative. i'm looking to get an 07 SE auto, 4 cylinder. the dealers in the houston area aren't very willing to negotiate as well as the prices i've seen on this forum. I've seen a thread which has people buying the car for 300 under invoice. the dealers in houston are only taking 2000 off msrp for the 07's. they stated that 300 under invoice is impossible. I've talked to several dealers in houston (sterling mccall - i hate them. the sales person has a really bad attitude, and talked to others mike calvert, don mcgill, joe meyers, and they wouldn't go down much). Is it really possible to get the camry 300 under invoice? anyone from houston area who can recommend a dealer and sales person that I should contact for cheapest price? thanks everyone.
Waste of time talking to them dealers directly, ofcourse they wanna pinch as much money off you as possible. My advice is to do the enquiring online. Online quotes are generally lower than speaking to dealers on site.
Give them a false number in which to contact you, so you dont ever get bothered. Do it all on-line. Internet sales are far more accomodating IMHO... GL
You can negotiate with almost any dealer. You just need to be prepared and do your homework prior to going to the dealership. Here is a great site to help you out. http://www.carbuyingtips.com/
That site really explains a lot of the stuff that goes on behind the scenes at car dealerships and how hard you can push. My advise is to know exactly what you want, get financing, and start early in the day at the dealer. Be prepared for all the fun and games they want to play. Be ready to walk out. Believe me, they will follow you out to your car trying to get you back into the office. Good luck.
Its almost the car buyers bible, bit of a read but the returns are incredible. The little things do make a difference..
Im scouting for an Avalon and a 4Runner right now, and yeah Epsilon's advice is true, go buy it from LA, competition for business is fierce in this neck of the woods. Anyways, did most of my scouting/enquiries online and will only goto the dealer just to test drive the vehicle and just sign financing papers. Do all your haggling online, it is just sooo much easier and less time consuming.
Why spend 1 hour trying to get a good price at 1 dealer when you can spend 2 hours but with 10 potential dealers fighting for your business?? GL

They still have 07 SE's 4cyl in stock? I have 07 SE's 6cyl over $800 below invoice. With the 08s on the ground they got to move them.
I bought my car over the internet from the local dealer in Dallas almost a year ago. I told them exactly what I wanted and they priced it exactly for that. Concacted a few Dallas dealers this way and went with the best price. Easy.

I don't know if any of them will go $300 under invoice or not. I was contacted by several dealers as a result of going through the AAA car buying service regarding the 07 LE (4cyl) I wanted. Sterling McCall said that the price they were quoting was $300 over invoice, based upon their agreement with AAA. It could be that if I had gone straight through the dealer web-site without being referred from somewhere else, the price may have been lower. It is my understanding that the dealers who obtain referrals from AAA, pay a fee to AAA for that referral.
I ended up purchasing through Tejas Toyota in Humble (they had the vehicle I wanted without all the extras already added on) and was told that my price was $100 under invoice, but by my calculations and research, it was still slightly over invoice. I didn't argue the point because, from what I could determine, the dealer profit was within a reasonable range.
