i need a little bit ofhelp chosen some stero upgrades. i want to spend about 4-6hundred on subs and an amp. i remember reading about something not fitting and i just want to know what that was about also. plz suggest some stuff. thx
heres my suggestion. DO NOT make your stereo gangsta! a common misconseption is that subwoofers are only for pimped out rides or rap music etc. but actually subwoofers are a critical part of good imaging and bringing out your music. however it can be easily over done. im at odds about a sub myself. im not sure how to do it tastefully. so many kids just want alot of bass that there isnt much available for the audiophiler. i might omit a sub depending on how these polk audio signature reference speakers sound when i get them. i wouldnt get anything more than a single 10 inch woofer. im actually considering one of those small passive subs to fit under the seat.
I'm going to be spending just a little more than that going with Rockford Fosgate, Power amp and sub, just a 10". Gonna cost about $700 after shipping on eBay
But I mean it's personal preference, you can probably buy a cheap box, and a half decent 12" sub and amp. It's not going to be the craziest sound system ever, but it'll probably sound decent enough.
Subwoofers can be cheap. They produce such low frequences that honestly the only difference comes if you want lots of power.
If you're talking about a smaller sub that puts out like 150-300W RMS, there is no point in wasting money on things like JL or some crazy $150 box.
Personally I'd go with an Infinity BassLink II. It's a self-powered 10" sub with 250W RMS and 500W Burst. I had the BassLink I in my old Echo which was a little less powerful and I was extremely satisfied.

I'll follow along with the infinity subs. I have a 12" reference series in my trunk with a nice infinity amp attached to it. Its set at a 80hz cutoff frequency so it only hits the low stuff. Works perfectly for whatever type of music you listen too. The sub and its box together cost 230$ at Best Buy. The amp was somewhere around 150-250. I also got a 1 ferrod cap cuz I listen to my music LOUD and don't wanna add the strain to the battery.
80Hz is an ideal cutoff, yes. In my old Echo, I had set the cutoff to 80Hz in the BassLink I.
He's talking about a Capaitor. It's basically a unit that takes a small charge from your alternator/battery and helps when the sub starts drawing more power from the amp (bass rich songs, or volume turned up load) the capacitor will donate the extra power so there is no extra strain on your battery (you can see it when lights dim). Although I don't know if you would really require a capacitor for something as small as you are looking for, it would be unecessary added cost most likely. A rule of thumb for capacitors is 1 farad for every 1000watts.

how your system sounds will come down to the installation. If you have a pos box then it wont sound nice. The enclosure for the sub is the biggest factor on how it "booms"
I had a 12'' Solobaric with a Ported Box and all that. Next thing I know that Cheap Piece of Crap Cardboard thing that covers the spare tire compartment is cracked!!! Can I get that replaced by Toyota under warranty?

Yes, just take it in without your Kicker Sub lol and say you don't know what happened to it

agreed. There are certain subs out there which work best in either ported or sealed enclosures.
For example, Digital Designs and Cerwin Vega recommend ported enclosures for most of their subs (DD 9500 series subs, Cerwin Vega Stroker Series subs). I've seen fools dump them in sealed enclosures and make them sound like total crap.
