5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I am an owner of a 06 nissan altima 3.5 and am pretty much done with it. I would rather not get into all the specifics but the car is just of overall poor build quality and I need to move on. As far as the camry, I am interested in the 08 camry se v6 as well as the 07 accord ex v6. My question to you all is are there any problems I should look out for with the powertrain etc , or is it pretty soild? Also, how is the quality of the interior ( rattles and such) and overall build quality?
Also, as far as pricing goes, what do you think would be a decent deal? I am looking at the se(v6) with sunroof, leather, and most importantly traction control. The sticker on the car is around 28k and change, and was thinking about 25k cash(no financing) out the door, what kind of deals have you gotten with similar options?
Thanks in advance, and I apoligize for all the questions, and I look forward to joining the toyota family soon.

There are issues, there is a transmisison flare (do a search for many threads), this is limited to V6 models, and overall interior quality is worse than prior years IMO, go look at one in person. For pricing, getting 3k off MSRP is reasonable, may be hard to do on a new 08, however if you mean OTD 3k below msrp, no way (unless you have no sales tax in FL) but in CA, we have around 8% tax, so often a great deal here OTS is about a grand less than MSRP....like MSRP is 28k, we talk down to 24-25 plus ttl, end up around 27 otd. You may also consider waiting for the new 08 accord, it should be on your list of cars to look at.

I am going to buy an 08 V6 SE next week. I already have it on order. They only really offer two packages from the factory unless you do some sort of special order-one with Nav and the other without. Both are decked out with all the options-leather, moonroof, jbl 6 disc. MSRP $30334-$31900. I'm getting mine for $27,297 plus license and fees.
I plan to upgrade to HID and NAV and maybe a backup camera when I get it. That will probably cost another $2k.
I've heard there were transmission problems with the early 07 V6's. Hopefully those have been taken care of.
For pricing, check kbb.com. You can determine the invoice price to the dealer. Add an additional 600 for the regional advertising that Kelly fails to include. That is the invoice the dealer pays. Work from that figure.
The V6 transmission has had a flare problem between third and fourth gear the first time it shifts after a long cold soak but that is about it. They can reprogram the older ones that performed poorly or replace the transmission. In any event it only affects a fraction of the cars, and they have been getting closer to finding out what was wrong and fixing it via firmware upgrades. My car had a problem and it was fixed.
There were fit and finish issues with the early 07 cars but that has generally been rectified. Just look at any car you are about the buy and see how the interior stacks up to your expectations.
My real life mileage runs from about 19-22 in all city to 25 mixed to 32 all highway running 75-85. YMMV.
