Gen6 Shark Fin Antenna...

This is more or less an upcoming mod but I wanted to put this out here just incase someone else tried it and has some tips and/or input...

I'll be installing a Siruis tuner later this month and want to hide the Sirius antenna with a shark fin cover. I started my search for such a cover on EBay and bought this:

EBay Shark Fin

It was only $9.00 which included shipping from China so I figured it would be no big loss even if sliver lead paint was used on the fin or if it was a total POS. Eight days later this arrived:

I can best describe the quality as OK...and pretty much what I expected for the $9.00...

I put it on the car and wasn't really digging the antenna's shape and silver paint...keep in ming that that gaps you see are because the fin is not attached...it's just laying in the roof.

Since I still want to cover the Sirius antenna with a shark fin I search some more and found this:

VG Shark Fin Antenna

This is a functioning antenna which is marketed toward vehicles with roof top antennas as a replacement and some of the users also use it also to cover their satellite antennas.

I like the shape for the VG Shark Fin and probably the best part is that it will be custom painted to match the car colour.

Anyone do something similar?

I would be very interested to see if you can hide your sat-radio antenna in that fin.

I have XM installed in my Camry, but my antenna is INSIDE the cabin on the rear shelf.

Problem is that I have metallic-based tint and in rural areas, I sometimes lose signal due to interference.

If you can get the antenna inside the fin, I'd do the same.

I have been searching for almost a year for a decent fin solution to get my XM antenna off of my rear deck and outside onto the roof plane of the car. I'm very interested.

Yaz...

I don't think fitting the Sirius antenna under the VG Shark Fin will be an issue...

Here's an installation from the VG website (that's a Terk Sir-Mini antenna):

VG also offers group buys...if anyone with a Titanium Silver Camry is interested please let me know.

Umm, that's not a good example, those are 2 different cars.

I have Sirius and my antenna is inside mounted on my windshield beside the rear view mirror

What do you mean two different cars? It's the same red Mazda 3...one pic is a close-up of the two antennas and the other is the entire car with the shark fin...

I would assume he meant that it was a Mazda3, not a Camry.

It's just shadows and how the light reflects that makes the color look different. Look at the roof lines, panel gaps, and the hump near the edge on each side , it is the same car.

FWIW - everytime I pass a bimmer I think, damn I'm so glad my TL has a little bump rather than that big honking shark fin ontop of it.

Personally, I don't think it goes with our cars.

I'm still completely happy with my "stealth" XM antenna installation -- installed UNDER the plastic parcel shelf, on the abundant metal underneath that piece of plastic. Reception is fine, and absolutely no visible antennas on the car whatsoever is GREAT!
