5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Here's the deal. As posted in the Off Topic section, I shredded the driveshaft (4 pieces) of my Formula last Wednesday at the dragstrip during a launch. I won't have the new chrome moly Extreme Duty driveshaft until Friday. That means that I can't run the car tomorrow. There are only two days left at the track this year so I hate to waste a day.
I have two questions:
1) Should I run the Camry tomorrow? 2) If so, what do you think it will run?
It's an '06 Camry LE SET Special Edition with a 2.4 L 5 speed auto. The temp. will be around 87 degrees F with 45% humidity and a 15-20 MPH headwind. I'm not sure of the altitude and the car is full of gas.
Assuming the Cam is your daily driver, why take a chance? Just watch others run and be a spectator. Is it really that important to run something just for the sake of not missing a day?

I say run it. Don't do the neutral bomb though where you rev it up in neutral and then push it in drive to launch lol. I'm guessing you will be in the 17's.
I don't see a reason not to. A couple of passes are not likley to damage anything. I would be interested in your times as well. If anyone says anything to you about racing a camry schedule a race with them next week and bring Lt1.

What do you think?
Just do it. If you don't do it then ten years from now...looking back you'll say I should have...what would happenned if....
Honestly, if I live in the same area with you, I would bring my 07 Camry "I4 Dual Exhaust" to race with you just for the fun of it. Have fun.

If something breaks, it breaks. It's not as much of a daily driver as it is a backup vehicle for when the Formula is down for mods/special order parts.
I don't really enjoy watching. I did that for so many years as a kid it just isn't fun. I've been behind the scenes in nearly every type of auto racing. Simply watching isn't a big deal anymore. You can see more on TV.
I do like talking with other drivers. Giving shit, getting shit back, learning new stuff, seeing new stuff, and just having some laughs is part of the fun. It would be fun and I suspect I'll get some heat for bringing the Camry. I don't really talk to import guys there so I imagine quite a few eyebrows would be raised if I showed up.

i wonder if theres a difference between the 5speed auto and 4speed auto in terms of acceleration....
id guess it would run in the 17's.....it does 0-60 in about 8 seconds but that all i know for sure
