Gen5 Checking Valve Lash

At 70K miles, I am going to check my valve lash. Should I buy new cover gasket and replace, or will the original one re-seal OK.

Right now I have zero fluid leaks and like it that way.

Conversely, has experience shown that this check will be a waste of time?

Forget about it.

To adjust the valve lash you need to order the correct thickness lifters

makinson,
If you are like me, you like to take things apart just to see how they work. To this end you would need a new gasket because after 70k miles the old one is going to be brittle and hard and is unlikely to seal well if reused. Consider getting some good strong cleaner for the valve cover. They tend to accrue some sludge and gunk over time and it would be a good time to clean that out.
