5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Ok, I have a nice little problem here. I have a 2007 Camry with the same 2.4 liter engine as the Scion tC. Now I'm trying to get intake done on the car. I want to redo everyone from the throttle body up. Slight problems will include that Scion tC CAI will not work due to the fact that an electrical component is in the way of the tubing.... picture shown:
See that off to the side of the air box? It blocks it completely for any CAI. So now my option go down to short ram intake for the Scion tC but I still havn't seen any type of short ram. So if you do know of any, please post a link to one.
Now if that won't work, I figure that I have just remove the airbox and get a cone filter. Yet another problem... the MAF sensor is right on the air box. Easy fix, but I need help finding it. Is there any place where I can buy a universal mount for the MAF sensor so that I can mount it between the tube that goes to the throttle body.. and the cone filter?
And now for exhaust. I havn't looked at my exhaust system, but is it possible to do a axle back exhaust system for the car? Or whould I have to go along the route of cutting off the old muffler and welding on the new one?
Make sure everything's in tight when your done. I was driving to class this morning to find my car stop repeatedly on a busy street. I thought it was a need to change oil because I havent yet, and when I got to a shop (missed class ) I found my intake had fell off...on top of that the guys who changed my oil claimed I now had to pay them $40 just for removing it and screwing the factory intake back in...all in all a $21.95 oil change became $65

Let me get this straight. Your car was stopping intermittently on a busy street, and you thought that maybe the problem was that oil needed to be changed?
Then, you go on to say that your intake fell off, BUT you paid $40 to have it removed only to be replaced by the stock box, right?
Can I be your mechanic? I only charge $1000 an hour per visit, and I will guarantee your car for LIFE. Nominal visits apply.
Wow.

Lol, I havent had the oil changed....since 6kmiles im at 16k now, kept putting it on the agenda and forgetting, so when that happened I first thought the thing was really f'd up due to that negligence...
Turned out the intake fell out, guy messed around, hooked it back up, leak near the sensor, all kinds of crap so I finally brought the factory one out of the trunk to put on and he said he'd do it...
Lol i really dont mind anymore...saved me from getting dirty before classes
If you're on a budget, some guy on these boards actually cut off the end of the pipe from the beginning of the airbox and put a cone on the end of the cut off part. Extremo ghetto custom, but it'll give you the same effect (and no, I didn't do this to mine trdvvti and whitechocolate but i will commend a ghetto concept that works)
