Gen5 2006 Camry 2.4L Auto 1/4 mile runs completed

Well, I ran the Camry today at Brainerd International Raceway. The temperature wasn't ideal at 92 degrees F (tied the record high - go figure). Headwinds were about 20 mph but gusted a little bit higher.

The Camry performed as I thought it would. I was going to be content to click of a 16.9 and I did. MPH was a little slower than I thought, but I made the times so it's all good as far as I'm concerned.

Here's the timeslip data:

R/T ----- .178 ---- .224 ---- .137
60' ----- 2.485 --- 2.482 --- 2.459
330'----- 7.088 --- 7.095 --- 7.079
1/8 ----- 10.886 -- 10.895 -- 10.888
MPH ---- 64.86 --- 64.63 --- 64.72
1000' --- 14.182 -- 14.194 -- 14.191
1/4 ----- 16.968 -- 16.984 -- 16.986
MPH ---- 80.27 ---- 81.25 ---- 79.90

Here are a couple of vids. There isn't any sound because it's taken with my digital picture camera:

It's what I expected so I'm pleased with the results.

The O/D button was on. It wouldn't have made a difference because the car woundn't hit overdrive anyways.

Here's another vid:

The rear of the Camry actually squats more than the rear of my rear wheel drive Formula.

I tried different launches and it doesn't make a difference. I had the RPM's in different spots at the start. The fastest run was the last one. After I staged I floored it and then released the brakes. There was more wheel spin but not alot. There isn't enough power to really light the tires up but it did wheel hop quite a bit. Like I said though, there really wasn't any difference so I wouldn't just can it like that every time. The axles and the transmission won't like repeated abuse like that. After you leave the line, it's just basically driving straight while you try and push your foot through the floor.

I'm thinking that the reason my car ran better than the test times (which are usually better than normal) is because of the following:

TRD filter flows more than OEM paper filters. The paper filter is the main intake restriction
Synthetic oil. Dyno tests prove it, a quality synthetic oil reduces friction
TRD exhaust/after cat. Possibly a SLIGHT decrease in back pressure. Maybe not.
Lighter wheel/tire assemblies. BBS wheels are pretty light with really helps accelleration.

None of those things make much of a difference by themselves, but grouped together probably add a few horsepower anyways.

A couple other things to consider that work AGAINST me are the fact that it was 92 degrees F and I also have a little weight added with the body kit and rear lip spoiler. It's not alot, but does also affect the car.

EDIT: The car was EXTREMELY consistant. All runs were seperated by less than a tenth of a second and 1 MPH. I was amazed at that.

I really think that on a cooler day, less wind, and less humidity it would run 16.7's and possibly faster.

It's funny that you said that. I was just outside a bit ago and was thinking that a nice shot of nitrous would probably get me to the 15 second zone.

I won't do it though. Not on the Camry anyways.

I bet that it could take a 75 shot easily and maybe a 100 shot, as long as you didn't spray from the start. I wouldn't spray it more than once or twice either.

People spray LT1 5.7's all the time with 100-150 shots over and over again. They run one compression point higher too.

It's conceivable. I wouldn't risk it on my Camry though.

nice results! i was hoping that your car would run just under 17s since the Gen 3's run just over 17s .... and it would be sad to think that they didnt improve ANY over the years

but im sure its the driver not the car that got those times
