5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I'm glad to have found this site. I belong to a similar site for my other car and it's always been a good group to be involved with.
Sorry to ask for help on my first threat, but I ran accross this site while searching the web for an issue we're having.
My wife has a 2002 Camry XLE 4 Cyl with ~ 72,000 miles on it. I drove it for the first time at night in a while and had a peculiar issue with the lights. When I got in the car at dark in a lit parking lot I quickly noticed the interior lights were not turned on. It took a few seconds of fidldling with the swtich to get them to come on and I never noticed if the headlights were actually on prior to that (well lit parking lot). When the interior lights came on you could here the relay click behind the dash.
On the way home I noticed that if I hit the bright lights the interior lights would turn off for a couple seconds, then the same click as they came back on. They also flicked off on their own a couple times on their own, and if I bumped the light/turn signal lever. However it seemed to get better as I drove. By the time I got home I could not recreate the problem. No matter what I did with the lever control the lights never flickered or delayed again.
Has anyone ever seen an issue like this, or have any idea what it could be?
If it's the signal lever or a relay can the be replaced easily or do I need to get it to a dealer? (I am pretty hands on and do some basic repairs to my cars.
Thanks for any advice or insight you may have. Hopoefully I will have something to contribute in the future now that I know of the site. Glad to be a part of the group.

Is your car 100% stock or have you mod anything like added an amplifier? HID?
I had the same click noise on when I added the amp then HID. So when I turned on my HID I hear the click noise. The click goes away if I turn off the amp.
So tell us more about your car.

Back on stock height and love it!
It's my wife's car, no mods (shes not the type). All stock lighting.
The lights I noticed being delayed and flickering are the instrument panel lights, everything on the circuit including gear shift and radio.
There was a definite delay from when you hit the control on the turn signal lever and when those lights came on. It also flickered off and back on a couple times on the way home. You could hear what sounded like a relay triggering late behind turning the lights on each time.
By the time I got home, there was no delay and no flickering.
I feel kinda stupid for not noticing, but I'm not sure if the headlights were going on and off with them. When it first happened I was in a well lit parking lot, and when I was on the road your eyes immediately pick up ont he interior lights going off, but the time I'm looking around, they are back on. I really was looking forward guys, I'm not sure how I could have missed it.
I'm mostly worried there is a relay or switch going bac, and one of these days my wife will have no lights on a drive home.
Problem most likely in the Multifunction switch(Turn signal lever). Same thing was happening in my 89 Toyota pickup. Part is just over $100

Agreed.
You should be able to replace it yourself. In the front page of the Camry forum there's a thread with an online manual. You can look it up in there and print the pages that you need.
