For future reference, i bought the iSImple ISAS71 PXDP (not the PXDP-2) from Peripheral. Everything I needed was in the box. I used the PXHTY3 harness, and I didn't have to cut the green wire, although the instructions say that you do. In addition to setting the dip switches 1,2,4,8, I also had to set dip switch 6 because if I didn't, the volume was slightly muted.
Yes, the steering wheel controls work. I can advance to the next song, and change the volume using the steering wheel controls. I can also use controls on the radio itself to fast forward or fast reverse through a song. And I can also use the iPod itself to control everything (except volume). To get the radio in "iPod mode", you have to press the "Disc" button on the CD player twice. When in "iPod" mode, the radio flashes between a "1" and a "2" which is odd.
My radio does NOT display the artist and the song. On the 2005 Camry, I believe that you need the type III radio with the navigation system to be able to display the artist and the song title. I have the most basic radio which is not capable of displaying text (except for hard coded things like numbers for the the radio station).
So far, it seems like a good buy. I got the iSimple at BestBuy for $100. The auto stores wanted anywhere from $150 to $200 for the exact same thing, not including installation. The installation was pretty easy. The most difficult part about the whole thing was getting the radio out of the dash, but somebody on this forum posted detailed pictures showing how to remove your radio, so even removing the radio was pretty easy.
