Gen6 2008 Body Side Molding

I ordered my 2008 V6 XLE with body side molding and it arrived without it. The dealer said there was a problem with 3M adhesive that was used to stick them on and they didn't know when they would be available. I paid for them and I have a WE OWE for them.

Has anybody heard when they will be available?

I know some people don't like them but my wife is always going to places like Walmart and parking next to a 72 2dr Monte Carlo and the car needs some protection.

The dealer offered to use some aftermarket moldings but I want the real deal. Also afraid of the color match. Any suggestions?

My dealer told me the same thing. Fortunately, I was referring to the body kit on an SE, and he was just a moron.

I would call Toyota corporate at 1-800-331-4331 and speak to customer service. Ask them if they can varify this one way or the other, and if it's true, can they give you a date when they will be available. I would assume it is correct, since this is a dealer installed option and there is no real reason I can think of why the dealer would not want to put them on prior to delivery. It's not that expensive of an option.

It is a stop sale because they have been trouble with them coming off. Right now no date is offered.

You're right - I have them on my Camry as well but they only "protect" a very small area of the door. If another door opens above or below the molding, then you're out of luck. I've dinged the Camry several times opening the rear door of my ES parked next to it in the garage.

You're both wrong. True to a point, if the adjoining door hits paint instead of the molding then you are out of luck, but the molding is at a high point on the arc of the door and I can assure, based on how much touch up paint I've applied to the molding, that they save dings to the door. I can see down the road where I might have to peel off the originals I installed and put on new ones. This car takes a serious side attack abount once a month. I put them on after taking the first door ding which the PDR guy kidly fixed for $75. That's about all I paid for the molding. I learned my lesson. See if you can find the Canadian mlding for sale on eBay or contact a Canadian Toyota dealer. They had a different molding during 07 year.
