5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Sorry I didn't know I needed a nickname. We have an 07 4 cyl camry that only gets 21 MPG highway. We drive it in the highest gear. This replaces a V6 Buick Regal that got 28 MPG. We thought Toyota was better than GM. Any thoughts on what is wrong?
if you are getting bad milage its your fault (no offense) not Toyotas, the EPA makes MPG figures not Toyota. I can get 33mpg on mine if I don't use A/C, you need to look at what you are doing before go blaming Toyota. Toyota is way better than GM, I got a friend who has to replace his '02 Impala because the engine block is cracked, my fam has owned many toyotas and NONE of them have EVER had engine issues.

I would make sure that your tank is full before traveling. Also, I would use the total milage travel and the amount of gas it takes to refill to calculate my overall MPG's. You should do this several times before drawing a set conclusion of your total MPG's in the city/highway.
You didn't indicate where you live. Are you going up hill all the time? Check the tire pressure and keep at least 33 psi. How many miles on the car? Brand new cars take some time and mileage to break in and get the best mileage. Changed oil and using a thick viscosity? Fix it. How are you calculating the mileage? Make sure you know how. Something is dragging and creating resistance, or you are hauling a lot of junk around. Lighten the load.

"People who think they know it all are particularly irritating to those of us who do."
My mileage for the 1st tank to the 40th tank did not improve more than 0.1 mpg.
People probably assume that because when the dealer says the car comes with a full tank of gas, it's obviously not full since it was driving around for some time after that, at least to get back to the dealer. And when people calculate their mileage, they see a pretty low number. But once they fill up themselves it's more accurate so they think the mileage is improving.
hello, everyone! im new here but i would like to say that I DO argee with this post. i have a brand new 07 camry LE 4cyl and this car is terrible in gas!! b 4 i got this car i had a 2003 Cadillac CTS V6,and this car NEVER swallow as much as is little car did. also i would put $10 in gas and it would give me close to a half of tank in the Caddy. and remeber i have a 4cyl now...lol I would never buy a toyota! i dont even like the car no more, but im stuck with it for 6 years..thinking of tradeing it in in 2 or 3 years....
