07 4 cyl camry-terrible gas mileage

Sorry I didn't know I needed a nickname. We have an 07 4 cyl camry that only gets 21 MPG highway. We drive it in the highest gear. This replaces a V6 Buick Regal that got 28 MPG. We thought Toyota was better than GM. Any thoughts on what is wrong?

if you are getting bad milage its your fault (no offense) not Toyotas, the EPA makes MPG figures not Toyota. I can get 33mpg on mine if I don't use A/C, you need to look at what you are doing before go blaming Toyota. Toyota is way better than GM, I got a friend who has to replace his '02 Impala because the engine block is cracked, my fam has owned many toyotas and NONE of them have EVER had engine issues.

I would make sure that your tank is full before traveling. Also, I would use the total milage travel and the amount of gas it takes to refill to calculate my overall MPG's. You should do this several times before drawing a set conclusion of your total MPG's in the city/highway.

Low tire pressure or your right foot!!

I can hit 37 mpg at a steady 55 w/o AC and have averaged well over 31mpg on a number of road trips.

20-23 in stop and go traffic............depends on the length of stops.

You didn't indicate where you live. Are you going up hill all the time? Check the tire pressure and keep at least 33 psi. How many miles on the car? Brand new cars take some time and mileage to break in and get the best mileage. Changed oil and using a thick viscosity? Fix it. How are you calculating the mileage? Make sure you know how. Something is dragging and creating resistance, or you are hauling a lot of junk around. Lighten the load.

People probably assume that because when the dealer says the car comes with a full tank of gas, it's obviously not full since it was driving around for some time after that, at least to get back to the dealer. And when people calculate their mileage, they see a pretty low number. But once they fill up themselves it's more accurate so they think the mileage is improving.
