5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I like to bump my music pretty loud, my Camry is a low end LE so it doesnt have the upgraded sound system, however some my neighbors in my development were talking outside the other day as I drove buy and I heard them complaining about how lound I had my music and that if the police heard how loud it was I would get a ticket. Now I have heard some loud systems ones that will make the windows on your house rattle, but I find it hard to believe that my stock speakers are making that much noise.
I've got the JBL sound system and a bandpass box in the trunk. Tell your neighbor to complain, about me. I probably wouldn't hear him complaining becuz of the music in my car, the trunk rattles the doors vibrate as well as the rear view mirror. And thats all I gotta say about that.
Well the system isn't bad. For a factory stereo system I've found it to get me by so far. I have an SE with the non-JBL stereo and it sounds all right. Having said that, I will be hooking a subwoofer up to increase my bass while lessening the bass load on the factory speakers, which should in turn make them sound a little clearer.
I don't think anyone would complain about the noise level from the factory stereo though. Unless you like rock music with a LOT of treble and high volume.
i have the non jbl system in my '02. It actually puts out enough power for what i needed it for. i added a box in the trunk (2 - 10"s bandpass with a decent amp), to up the bass and take load off the stock speakers having them produce more mid-treble.
i got my old cars, mazda and a civic, broken into 3 times (total) with my shit stolen, and once with my dash cracked open...fuckers used a prybar to get my deck. after that i said so i left the deck, which looks cleaner than an aftermarket single DIN in my opinion, and put a box to it. sounds great to me and is as loud as i'll ever need it. sure i can't enter any Db competions but quality sound and decent volume is there, and no punk wants my stock deck.
I am amazed at teh lack of maturity in some of the posts in this thread.
Wait until you have a sleeping infant and some tool comes down your street bumping and shaking the walls...waking your child. Then you may understand what it means to have courtesy enough to turn it down on a residential street. What is the purpose of playing it that loud, other than to draw attention to yourself?
I have had systems in my younger years capable of hitting 145+dB but I would save that sort of volume for shows (mainly IASCA/SPL events) when I had ear plugs. Above about 100dB will cause damage to your ears after about 15 minutes or less.

^ Long term exposure to 80 dB will cause hearing loss also.
You can turn any stereo up, and the stock system in the Camry is probably sufficient to be heard outside the vehicle. I seldom have the volume turned up higher than 20. I'm not sure how high it goes, but the 30 setting is where it starts getting painful for me.

Ok this is good to know because I did think those guys were over reacting, and they got their nerve complaining about me. One of them has this hideous African fertility statue in his front yard and then the guy accross the street from me is always sitting in his driveway watching whats going on like this is Desperate Housewives or Knots Landing, but when his kids are outside he is nowhere to be found and they are in the middle of the street playing around.

I never play my music loud late at night or early in the morning becuase I know people are sleeping and those guys that were complaining don't have babies so they were just over reacting. I think it has to do with the fact that where most of us used to live loud music was the norm and I think they feel since they paid upwards of 200,000 in a so called "nicer" suuburb there should be no loud music and other stuff going on.

I don't care if you are in a $250/month tenement and whether they have kids or not (that was jsut an example). Some people don't want to hear your music..it's that simple. It's called common courtesy.
Kids today, no manners

just turn your music down when you reach your neighbour hood. Or a quiet residental area.
I usually blare my music but when i turn into my street or any other residental street i turn my music down. i absolutely HATEEEEEEEEEEEEE those jackasses who drive down your street and all you can hear is their bass... worse is when its like 12am.
I am honestly impressed with the basic stock stereo system in my Camry. Sounds plenty good enough. Not as good as the Bose stereo in my ol' Nissan Pathfinder - but pretty good. I hate how all the bass comes from the rear (I think they may be 6X10s) completely aggravating any occupants that may be back there.
Other than that, i think it is plenty good enough for Toyota's intended audience.... I'm sure the JBL sound system sounds spectacular but at 1400 or something for the option is absolutely rediculous. I'm not ever replacing my head unit though- I had to do that with the Pathy as the CD changer gave out... and that is one thing people hated seeing when I went to resell the vehicle - regardless of the great shape it was in. It was too complicated for many adults. I like the simplicity of many OEM units and how much of the cars interior lines look messed up when you completely replace the stereo's head unit.
