5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
For the first time since i've had my car, I used the panic button, but only to scare one of my friends that was walking by.
But I noticed that it flashes the low-beam headlights when it's going off, now normally it's not a problem, but since I have HID's I know it's not good to be flashing them off and on. So I was wondering if there was a way to reprogram what the panic button does, similarly to how you can reprogram the automatic door locks and such.

Always got something else in mind...
My Service Manual says NO, guess you couldn't find yours..........
lol, I knew you were going to respond at some point. I've read the manual over a few times, but I remember hearing about ways to reprogram things such as the door locks that I thought there would be a way to do so with the panic mode.

Put the hid lights on a diff circuit.. and a seperate switch. and put the regular lo beam switch onto the high beams?

That sounds like a giant hassle. What would be the point? So now you need to flip a seperate switch to turn on the low beams... but if you do that, your gauge cluster won't light up... so you need to turn on the headlamp switch anyway... doing that will activate the high beams. If you put it on the parking lights, it'll activate the DRLs.
I've dealt with the same problem. There's no real solution to this other than to not use the Panic button. Hell, aside from accidentally, I've never had a use for it.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.
I've never felt like one incident or two of your alarm going off or panic mode going on will really be that bad for your HID. Some cars that come OEM with HID have alarms that cause the headlights to blink off and on. So I figure it's just one of those cases where as long as you don't put your ballasts under constant abuse, they will be fine. That is my guess.

I dont use it often at all, i've only used it once. I just found it pretty hilarious when my friends were near my car and I pressed it, just to see them jump, haha
I can live with not using it, I just wanted to know if there was a way to work around it.
