Tire questions - 2007 LE

I'm looking for information on the best tires to get to give the best ride and least road noise. I see the Michelin Primacy boasts of a very good ride while maintaining low raod noise. Is this a good choice or are there others? Also, how important is speed rating. I know Camry comes with V rated tires, but can you use H rated? What is different about the tire construction that affects the speed rating? Does speed rating affect ride?

Thanks!

Thanks. From the web site you mention, it sounds like H rated tires are more than enough for our cars. What does the higher V rating do? It seems it's over rated for the Camry and normal driving. Is it a safety thing?

That letter you are talking is the speed rating of the tire. It gives maximum speeds that the tire can safely be run at for extended periods of time. For ultra speed rated tires, extended periods, is a pretty subjective thing. But for our pedestrian applicatioin, any tire rated equal to or higher then the OEM ones are fine.

As for ride quality and road noise on the Michelins. I put Michelins on my wifes 02 camry and the ride quality got harsher and the road noise increased. The OEM tires were Brigstone Potenza RE92's. I understand that the RE92 is no longer made. The ride was great and they ran really quiet. The problem I had was getting 6 flats in a year and a half. I had to replace all 4 tires within that time because only 2 of the flats were reparable. I was told that there was no widespread problem with flats on the OEM tires, but after switching to the Michelins 3 years ago, I haven't had a single flat. I have had 3 or 4 sets of Michelins over the years and they all were louder and gave a harsher ride, but were very durable and lasted a long time. I can't comment on the Primacy in particular, but these are my experiances.

Type in your model info, look at the tires available and read the user reviews and comments about each tire model. You will find that every tire has lovers and hters but it might be useful.

Thanks for the repsonse

I understand about the speed rating. The Camry is V rated which is ood for 149 MPH while the H rating is good for 130MPH. It seems both would work for a Camry. Why does it use the V? The H rated tire is less money in the same model tire. How does the speed rating affect noise and ride?

This sounds good. I'd be putting them on 16" wheels. Did you upgrade right away or wait a while?

I was going to put that link but decided not to. LOL Their price is good but their store is not here so I have to find someone to do all the installation/balance/etc.

Speed is relate to the mix of material the tire is made of. It kinda relate to the noise but I think noise is more in the design of the thread.

^ But their tires are national brands and the user comments regarding their purchases are valid. Many really trash their tire purchases and amazingly, two guys buying the same tire can have completely different experiences.

To me.. more comment = better feedback and better to make my decision. I do agree that 2 guys buy same tire can have diff experience. Ppl drive different... and their commute too is different and road condition and etc etc. But U have a pretty good idea of how the tire is before you buy.

I love the internet for being able to have user feedback so you can compare before you buy.

Gotcha. Guess I should have read your post more carefully. I wouldn't have a problem personaly with the H rated tires on mine. I'm pretty sure that Toyota put the V rated tires on because the speed governer is set at 135mph and they want to cover there asses in case somebody does somthing stupid. Still, take a look at the mfg's speed reccomendations for there tires. I know I was suprised at the length of time at speed they posted. I have taken H rated tires at 90mph for 2 hours straight which is way beyond the "safe" limits.
