Drag around 35mph

Couldn't find a thread that talk about this.

When entering exit or come to a redlight, I let go of the gas paddle and let it slide but when the speed come down to around 35mph there is a churk and drag on the engine. I guess the engine lower the gear but does it suppose to create such a drag? And sometimes the drag got let go around 25mph or so. It's like it jump back to higher gear. And not like the car is going down hill that cause it to speed up.

Anyone else experience this?

This is a V6 SE Camry '07.

I used to have an '05 Camry with 4cylinder and it wasn't like this. It probably lower the gear too but not this noticable drag and let go after.

There is a TSB for this on the I4's. Not sure if there is one for the 6. Do a search on "harsh down shift" and check the listing of TSB's in the stick's at the top of the forum

Now I have to check see what got fixed last time when I go in for a repair on another engine problem. I think they did replace the "Transmission Valve Body Assy" but that didn't fix the problem so they had to replace the entire transmission (Under warrantee of cause).

But this downshift problem still happen now and then. It happen less but still.

Thanks Rapid for the reply.

This happens to me too. It is just the engine downshifting and you are feeling engine braking. It does help when you need to accel though because you are already in the perfect gear for instant acceleration.

I had this as well but it seemed to get fixed along with other anomalies when they reflashed the tcu.

Didn't know you have a built in engine. j/k

Anyway, if it's more noticable in the winter I'll complain to them again.
