hi, I live in a rural area where it a long distance to teh toyota dealership. I havea 2003 camry LE 4 cyclinder with 100,000k . We were driving and it just stopped going, we pulled over and there was a ton of oil on teh road, yet quarts remaind. When i tred to start it it almost did then made a clinking noise and died. other teims it just made the clinking noise. a local reapir guy cmae to my home after I had it towed 60 miles back to my house, and said it was teh motor mount arm or something. BUt my brother had a camry and right at 100,000 miles his timing chain went and did almost teh same thing... Does this sound more liek a timing chain or a motor mount? I ahve to have some idea before I tow it the 100 miles to teh toyota dealership! yikes!!! I bought this car brand new so it has not been abused...
Neither a motor mount or timing chain would result in oil being dumped on the highway. You need to pull the valve cover off and see if the cam is turning when the engine is cranked. If the engine went thump and you dumped oil, I'd guess you threw a rod through the block or something but in any event it is something a good mechanic could diagnose locally. You're in Vermont. You shouldn't have to go a hundred miles to find a competent diagnostic mechanic.

thank you! Do you have any idea how much this would cost to fix?
Oh by teh way have you ever been to VT? I live in Northern vt. NOt near Burlington or anything and teh nearest Toyota dealership is in Berlin NH where I bought the car it is 89 miles form me:0)
NO one around erhe wnats to touch it, because they are all American car dealers such as ford chevy GMC. thank you so so much!
please let me know about teh cost, if you have any general idea!
If it is a timing chain failure, It will be hard to tell Without looking inside your engine. You should have gotten a timing belt warning though before the failure. They usually start being noiser than normal. Be ready to spend in the range of 3000 dollars, if your problem is indeed a timing chain failure and you camry has an interference engine. . In most cases, the valves and the pistons are shot. They may have to rebuild cylinder heads, replace the pistons, rods ,... Don't alarm yourself, it could be a minor problem requiring less than 500 dollars to fix, if the carmy's engine is a non-interference engine. The non-interference engine will quit without any collatereal damage. I am not sure if your camry is equipped with a non-interference engine. Good luck

im sorry jessaluvsyotas.. i wasnt really trying to make fun of you, i was just pointing out what TRD VVTi was making fun of. im usually not a jerk like TRD(im not hating TRD, i enjoy your little quibbles).
to redeem myself, i will try and put some input..
how has your maintenance record been? it might be possible that your engine seized and cracked? have u gotten a chance to take a look in the engine bay at all? if it is the motor mount as the repair guy said, u might be able to see the problem if it were the front or side motor mounts. but then that would not explain the oil.. i agree with gdanaher and camry5genrocks that it might just be the internals of your engine just pooted.
hi, I am a 20 somthing woman, I don't know mcuh about cars. that is why I wrote on here, it is actually a rod, as I just found out.
