5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
The stock radio in my 07 Camry has horrible FM reception. It is the standard NonJBL/Nonnavigation unit made by Fujitsu ten. Toyota has replaced the unit once. It worked good for one day then it went south. The amp on the antenna has been verified working. I have not put anything on my rear glass or done anything that would hurt my antenna. I would just like to be able to listen to my local FM sports talk on the way home from work. Every vehicle I own will pick it up fine except for this car.
I would like to install this unit: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-5REobTZ...0&I=130DEHP490
The Pioneer units have the best tuners. Crutchfield is telling me a fold down face receiver will not work in this car?? Does anyone know if this is true?? I can not see how the face of the receiver folding down could be an issue. I assume crutchfield uses the Metra install kit.
The reason they're telling you that a fold down face will not work is probably because of the way the dash kit holds the unit in place.
Its common, on newer dash kits, the fold down face radios will not fit quite right. Always something you can do about it, but chances are, that's the reason.

You have to realize that factory radios are usually not that great.
If you have lots of money, I recommend getting this instead. It will give the car a factory look radio and it will look nice in the car. It also come with a rearview camera for free which usually cost lots of money to get.
The navigation unit is a little rich for mjy blood.
Does anyone know someone that has put an aftermarket unit in their 07 Camry?
I would like to know what interior kit they used and if they used a fold down face.
This system has no better/worse signal gain than any other car I have had. That, and the fact that it has been replaced and still no resolution leads me to believe that there are other factors external to the H/U itself (antenna cable/connector, change in station propagation, etc...).

I took the car after the dealer swapped out head units to a friend that owns a radio install shop. We pulled the unit strung out a new antenna, powered up the new antenna, hooked the new antenna to the unit with worse results. The antenna in my car seems to be working fine. We eliminated the antenna, What else could it be??
Why not just let the dealer deal with it. That's what you have a warranty for. Why should you pay for an aftermarket solution to the problem? If the dealer can't find a cause and a cure, call Toyota corporate and let them know about the problem, but give the dealer another chance to rectify the problem first. If you really want an aftermarket radio for whatever reason, then that's a different story IMHO.
I wish Toyota of Knoxville would take care of it, but they will not. Today I called them and they said they could not do anything more. When I took the car up there originally about the radio they told me toyota had no problems with the radios but they would swap mine out and just tell toyota it was blemished on the front. Today the dealer told me there was a Bulletin #AU003-7 about the radio problem and they replaced mine under that bulletin. Basically they lied up there trying to make me feel like I was the only one complaining about the radio. That pisses me off when they lie to you. That was great getting the radio replaced but the radio worked one day and then it craped out again getting terrible reception. The thing is, it will pick up very strong close stations, and so Toyota says that is all it needs to do. Every other vehicle I own picks up better than this piece of shit. They said they talked to the district Rep. Mike Rebich, and that was all they could do. Any ideas on what I should do from here?
