For the less technically inclined, here's a simplified version of the differences in key engine technologies:

V8: VVVROOOOOOOMMMMM!!!!
V6: VVVROOOOOOOOOOM!!!
I4: VVVROOOOOOOOOM!!
I4 w/ Turbo: VVVROOOOOOOOM-CHIRP!!!
V4: VVvRROOOOOOM?
