Home link? available or not?

Hi,

I wanted to add the homelink garage door opener to my '08 LE Camry. I went to Beechmont Toyota, and, as is usually the case with them, rather than looking, they just told me that has to be factory installed, and is available only on the XLE.
It seems to me that is should be a plug and play installation, since it is, after all, just a garage door opener.
Does anyone know for sure?

$180 will get you a Home Link, autodimming, compass rear view mirror from ebay - I don't have the link to hand at work unfortunately.

Not plug and play, but relatively simple to install, even I managed it!

I was wondering the same thing. I see the overhead consoles with homelink on ebay often, and was wondering if this would just plug in inplace of my existing overhead console? (I have a moonroof on my LE)

I have the Homelink on my 07 I4 SE. I'm almost certain that all the electronics are inside of the overhead unit and no attitional wiring is needed.

My dealer installed HomeLink in my '07 SE V6 for free, on the console, and not the mirror.

Lots of us Tacoma owners have installed homelink mirrors. It's easy. http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t88851.html

Even though I'm not the one who started this thread, this is something that has my interest as well. I am not wanting an autodim mirror, and am curious if anyone has added on their own the overhead console with homelink and can confirm or deny whether or not the existing harness plugs into the console with homelink.

I just checked the manuals and the wiring harness for the personal light pod/sunglass holder are the same wheather you have a sunroof or not. The homelink option only requires power and ground. Therefore, you can install any of the different overhead consoles and just plug it into the existing plug.

I have had HomeLink in my car for the past several years but never figured out how to use it. What exactly is it for?

Home automation - garage door openers are the most common, but auto gate openers, auto light switches etc.

I have 3 buttons, and two garage doors, so I've programmed two door openers and thats it.

Thanks, guys. Looks like I'll be making homelink my first mod. Mrs.02whitele will get the garage door opener from my car.

The HomeLink in my car isn't working properly. It refuses both the signals from my home garage and cottage garage. I complained to the dealer and they refused to even try to program it.

Therefore, I declare this feature to be useless.
