Lightbulb Finally got my suspension right (the Saga of the S-Tech Sag)

Freakin finally.

Stock: In front, fenders were about 2" above tires, rears about 1.5" (I thought it was 0.5", I was WRONG - rear wheel "tuck" hid the true height)

Try 1: Put on S-Tech springs, front was PERFECT, fenders were about 0.75" above tires, rear was 1" BELOW tires (CRAP).

Try 2: Put stock springs on back, see that the are almost 1" too high (crap)

Try 3: Go to advance auto and get some coil spring clamps. Tried to clamp a couple of the coils together, but I could not get it tightened down. There was not enough room in the coil to get in there.

Try 4: Cut 3/4 coil off rear springs - looks PERFECT. Until it settled after 100 miles, then the fender was 1" BELOW tires (CRAP again).

Try 5: Take those coil spring clamps I got from Advance Auto, turn them inside-out and make coil spring BOOSTERS (see picture). Put in S-Tech springs at lowest setting, still to high - by about 0.25"

Try 6: Jam the jack into the spring sideways, take out the boosters, take out a nut (0.25") put it back, NOW it's perfect. Again.

I'll get back to you if there is a try7.

Next project: rear spacers. 15mm I think. I'm thinking I'm going to take an angle grinder to the fenders intead of rolling them.

LOL I remember doing that to my CRX when I couldn't afford lowering springs back in the good old days of high school junior year.

Coil clamps...hehe. Some people never learn. I did.

There is a phrase that summarizes that type of modification. It's called a "hack job".

I would rather have the stock suspension than that setup.

I'll take some pics tomorrow. Point is now I have 0.75 all around all 4 corners instead of .75, .75, -.75, -.75.

There are three dead coils at the bottom of the rear springs. All I did was stick a spacer in between the upper two so that I have some control over the ride height. Now I can adjust the rear height in 0.25" increments.

The clamps are made of tool steel. Same stuff the springs are made of. Spring clamps have been around as long coil springs have been. This is an old school mod.

Call it a hack job if you like. It's human nature to fear what you don't understand.

hm you wasted money in aftermarket springs ..and you cut them. Might as well of cut the stock ones and save yourself some money. Even though cutting springs is very unsafe and ricerish you could've saved yourself what ever you spent on the springs and got the same results...

w.e floats your boat

I did call it a hack job. I understand it. Like I said, it's a hack job. You seem confused.
