5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Do you think the Gen 5 and Gen 6 sections should be separated?
I saw ekool's post in one of the new layout threads, in which he suggested that we start a poll. I couldnt find a recent one, so I created a new one (hope thats all right):

I think there are people on here who want them combined? Maybe I'm confused, I see people asking for it both ways. Why not start a poll and see what the majority thinks?
I think we should keep the sections together, as it allows us all to help each other out. If we separate the Gen 5 and 6, then we won't have the helpfulness of many members, such as the HID expert(s), and other very knowledgeable Gen 5 members.
no it shouldnt be separated.. gen 3 and 4 are together because they have similarities. they share the same engine, etc.
same thing goes for gen 5 and 6. they share the 2AZ engine.
separating everyone will make threads much more difficult to comment in and too many different pages to visit. a lot of people crosspost into different generations anyway.

+1 Well said!
Also, for guys that have both Gen5 & Gen6 this is a place called home.

I think not, other then the same engine comment above, I'd say it's more of a bigger environment mixing both generations. More people in the community would be able to respond to more questions from both Gen5 and Gen6 owners.

I like a lot of the gen 5 guys and like the way things are now...
^^ hhahaha! he said he likes gen5 guys- LOL
- (sorry dude, i just really had to)
5&6 should stay together b/c there will be more opinions/knowledge pool rather than 2 separated ones. Meaning better advice and more activity. oh yah.. more jokes too!
And it's not like it's something difficult to do...I administered several vBulletin boards...
Yeah, it's easy, but the question is whether it divides up the subject material appropriately. If I'm interested in talking about 1MZ-FE's, it's possible that more than one generation wants to hear it. I could see it better broken out as:
Gen1-2
Gen3-4-5
Gen 6 & Hybrid
I've never understood why the Hybrid people are shoved off on their own. They are Gen6'ers right? We allow them in the club? We aren't so envious of their LED tail lights that we kicked them out?

I do like the idea of having them together IF there's a way to make people having to click on the GEN 5 & GEN 6 icon before they post a new thread.
Ooh ooh... here's an idea... make everyone click on one or more check boxes, from a more comprehensive list of topics, to define the content of their post... Gen5... Gen6... 1MZ-FE... 5S-FE and Gen 3. These generic content descriptors could be stored in the SQL database along with the message.
Then allow every person to define, in their personal profile, a list of the topics they wish to view (from the same list of topics), selectable as check boxes. If I am a Gen3 and Gen 6 owner (which I am), and I'm interested in 3VZ-FE and 2AZ-FE and aftermarket audio discussion, I could click on those 5 boxes in my profile. Then, every time I visit the site, the forum would list all messages which match my interest criteria as defined in my profile. There wouldn't be a static "Gen 5&6" forum, unless I wanted to view it that way. That way, the forum content would dynamically matchevery person's needs.
Yeah, that's an idea. Somebody do that.

Having this seperates the body styles. I feel that Gen6 is what I'm interested in more.
Gen1-2
Gen3-4-5
Gen 6 & Hybrid

I think it should be separated. Besides the I4 engine that is shared what else are other similarities? It will be less cluttered, its not like the Gen 5th people can't visit the Gen 6th and vice versa. Its not like we're going to lose members from this separation. Since TN is a large forum that deals with all Toyota vehicles I don't see a point to combine the different chassis. Take for example the Corolla forum, it could be better organized and it would be more inviting if it was model specific instead of bunching everything together. It also gets annoying asking what model car you drive before answering.
