5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Well, it has happened. My 07 Camry SE's sunroof is causing water to leak into my car. Whenever it rains hard, I will get drips of water into the inside of the car mostly at the sun visor on the passenger side and along the point about the door where the curtain airbag is. My car is starting to smell like a wet dog and I don't own a dog.
I know for a fact that it must be the "drain holes" and not anything to do with the sealing, etc. within the sunroof that are clogged. When I tried spraying water into the passenger side drain hole, the water started leaking into the car right around the visor/srs curtain airbag. I was reading some posts I googled and it appears that many people with sunroofs can have these problems. A couple of posts indicated that you can try sparying pressurized air into the hole to see if it unclogs. I contacted my Toyota dealer and they said that I can bring it on tuesday. This should be under warranty?Anyone have any tips I could try myself?

There have been a few that have not had a drain hose connected.
Well since I've seen the inside of my roof three times...yes there is a white drainage hose/tube for the sunroof.
Furthermore, you should check the rubber "accordion-style" side bolsters for ripping in the top-most bend. That can happen easily. Open the sunroof upwards and you will see the accordion-style rubber things on both sides fold out.

If this doesn't fall under a warranty repair, I don't understand the purpose of a warranty. It's clearly caused by poor quality of construction or assembly, so they should cover it. In fact, I wouldn't even tinker with it, so they don't find something you've done and say you caused the problem. Leave it to the dealership to figure it out, and demand that any funky smell is dealt with as well.

Excellent point! You should demand that a full interior detailing be done on their bill. You can always suggest that a family member is allergic to some forms of mold caused by moisture where it shouldn't be.

Well, contrary to some advice, I attempted to take a look at the situation myself rather than wait for tueday. I pulled back the head liner and lo and behold, just a poster mentioned, the drain tube was not connected! I am certain that it must have become dislodged because I've had the car for almost 2 years and the leak just started. So it must have become dislodged. It took some trial and error but did manage to "reconnect" it. Now, there are no more leaks and the water properly drains to outside! My question now is, is there supposed to be some "sealant" that connects the drain tube to the drain? I mean, I'd hate to have the tube become dislodged again. Anyway, I'll let Toyota slide on this one.

Well, perhaps I'm not describing it correctly. I pulled the part just over the door right behind the curtain airbags. That was easy to do. It's just a matter of bending the door piece.
