Hey everyone i'm new to this org and i wanted to see if anyone had any expernce with the new gen 6 with a 5 speed manual tranny. I test drove one today i took forever to find one in town and when i finally did it was a CE model which has been sitting there for months now.
1. what has your experience been with this tranny
2. Is it fairly reliable
3. Do you think i could low ball the dealer on this car since its been there for so long and no one wants to buy even better ask them to put the Se lip kit on
i was gonna ask 16,500 out the door? what do you guys thinks it is a white one. I drove it today it is def a step down from my 99 maxima se-limited but it is better on gas and camry are known to last forever. any help would be much appreciated.
Whats their asking price on it? They can't just put the lip kit on there, too many mounting slots have to be cut into the bumpers, they do not have the proper aligning rig to do it.

18,200 i still haven't bargained with him yet oh and it is the last of their 07s do u have a manual tranny camry?
What was MSRP? The MSRP of a base w/ no options 5sp Camry CE would be about $19200. If I'm not mistaken, being in FL means you'll also have to pay around $700 in dealer & doc fees, $135.60 for registration, and another 6% in sales tax.
So if your CE that your looking at is base w/o any options, then it will look something like this:
That's nearly $3000 below invoice on a base CE. I suspect they would lose money on that deal, but if they really want that car off their lot really badly then you never know, they might accept it.
I say go for it. The worst they can do, is say no and counter offer. I just threw the numbers out there so you'd have the knowledge. Good luck!

thanks for the advice i'm guessing you don't have a 5speed manual camry? Does anyone on this forum have a 5speed camry?

This is my first manual car so I don't know what to say about the gearbox. I have driven a BMW 330 and I preferred the feeling of that transmission to the Camry.
I haven't had any problems with the transmission, but haven't even had the car for a year yet and I've driven less than 8000 miles. It hasn't left me stranded yet. My concerns with the car have nothing to do with the engine and transmission. It's more like fit and finish stuff like panels fading to white, drawers not closing, and tires that are dry rotting.

from a 330 to a camry, i thought i might be down grading i've got a limited maxima. What type of MPG have you been getting, I only ask because that is the only reason i'm interested in a 5 speed manual camry.

The 330 was not mine.
MPG varies a lot depending on driving. On a highway trip that was over 500 miles I managed a bit over 35 MPG. Mostly it was highway cruising at approx 75 MPH but I did hit a couple traffic jams, one which lasted 15 miles and I never shifted into 3rd the whole time. If it was all flat highway I probably could have done well over 35 MPG.
City driving I've done as little as 20 MPG but that is not the norm. All city I typically get 24-25 MPG.
Mixed highway and city, I've done anywhere from 27-33 MPG.
I work for a dealership. They won't want to get rid of that Camry, due to its rarity, till mid-late November, early December-ish. I personally have driven one of the very rare SE 5sp V6 and they are phenomenal man. I would urge you away from a base and get an 08 located for you. Dealerships here in KC will locate your vehicle no matter the distance and send a contract driver to pick up the vehicle, as long as you don't mind your vehicle having a few hundred miles on it. My dealership currently has an LE V6 5spd that has amazingly not gone yet. In my 8 months at the dealership, I have also never seen a CE Camry of any kind. Hope this information helps you out man.

achebee4you...I have a 5 speed Camry and love it...
I have had my 07 Camry CE 5 speed manual transmission, since the 4th of July weekend of 06 (the Gen 6 07 Camry came out in May 06 at the dealers I believe !!).
In any case I have 22.8K miles on my Camry CE...I had traded in my Acura TL '00 prior to this...and many at the time talked about a downgrade...it is, but I absolutely don't regret it...the TL was pretty nice but with 113K miles and almost a failing transmission was glad to get rid of it ; and other than the Sunroof and leather interior ; the Camry is extremely satisfying.
In regards to it's reliability, there were a couple of glitches:
(A) I had an intermediate steering shaft issue, which made the steering click as I turned (it wasn't the CV joint click but felt weird). At 14K miles, the dealer took care of it at no charge.
(B) I recently had a TSB done for a slight hesitation issue (EG036-07) and I was amazed at the power it put back to the engine ; it runs like a V6 and still gets me 31 ~ 32 mpg.
My CE 5 speed right at the moment runs smooth as silk (keepin' fingers crossed of course !!) and am lovin' it. Hell, for the price you can't go wrong. You could even afford to add some goodies like chrome wheels, wing etc and the car would look as hip as an XLE...good luck gettin' it for $ 16.5K...you just might...it's the best bang for the buck in my opinion, no doubt !!!
