new used camry with a CEL

so my parents upgraded to an avalon last month and they asked me if I wanted to buy their 2002 Camry V6 with only 55,000 miles. Hells yes!

They were nice enough to get it all checked by a mechanic before parking it and awaiting my arrival about three weeks later (today). Anyway, i start it up and there's a CEL on now. From my experience with my wife's volvo, if you park the car too long, presure in the gas tank is lost, and the CEL comes on with a faulty gas cap code. Is that common with Camries too? Just want an idea if this trip to autozone will go smoothly tomorrow.

I honestly don't know, but I would have it checked first and see what it is. If it's been sitting for a while you may want to just reset it and see if it comes back.

That's not possible. The car would have to fail more than one test before the MIL would come on, and it wouldn't perform the test immediately on startup.

I'm not saying that you won't have an EVAP code, just that it doesn't work like you described it.

Get the code and go from there. It's useless to speculate until then.

Pull the code and report back. Parking the car for a few weeks should not cause any issues. I parked my car for about 5 weeks while on a business trip and had no issues.

ive parked cars for months and never had a code pop up. the pressure is the gas tank is lost every time you fill the tank, so why doesnt a code pop up on the volvo then?

well, its been 9 hours, have you checked the code yet?

Autozone (and I sure some other parts stores) will read the code(s) for you for free. Get the code and report back here and someone will be able to give you some direction.
