I cant answer all your questions, but I didnt even bother installing the TPMS sensors on my new wheels. The light only comes on when I drive non-stop for about 100-150 miles, which I rarely do, so I can easily live with it.

I don't think thats quite right. In my case, the light would come on almost immediately-- even with stock rims. After driving for a while, the light would finally turn off (I attribute it to the air in my tires heating up).
Some TN members put a little piece of tape over that TPMS icon. I think however, if you wanted it fit in your rim, you would need to remove the tire and have a professional install it for you or something.
You can always forward this to the tirerack person on the forum.

I know a lot of tire centers will swap over the TPMS sensors for as little as $5 per tire, but I decided to keep them in my stock tires since i'll be using them in the winter anyways.
@desentrix, I guess it varies by car, but whenever I drive say, 50-100 miles in a day, the light does not come on, and when i park my car for the night and drive another 100, it still doesnt come on. It only appears when I drive pretty much non-stop for 100-150 miles.
