yes it used to be that yellow allowed rain drops to be seen better but like u said it was disproved. its mainly for the look.. and blue fogs is a nono unless u wanna get pulled over by cops every day
sodium iodide lamps were originally used as foglights, and when the gas inside the lamp burned, it produced yellow light beleived to cut rain and fog better than standard halogen lamps, and offer better visability
today, companies like lexus have used the yellow lamps for a unique look, and people have adapted this look for their own rides....its hella JDM tight too.
i have yellow fogs on my camry....i love the look of them, thats all
1. yes the yellow is a JDM thing
2. there is a purpose for using yellow light completely unquestioned by the "experts."
Just shop snow goggles some time and tell me that color plays no part in seeing better... There are certain types of light, "flat-lighting" specifically like you would have during rain or fog where yellow shielding/lighting provides clearer definition of say the surface or surrounding objects. Note I didn't say brighter but instead better definition... I've clearly experienced the effect while snowmobiling, starting out with clear goggles on a flat light day and then switching to yellow lensed goggles. The bumps and craters in the snow suddenly appear, further shooters and many pilots use yellow lenses to better define landscape/objects.
The yellow lights attempt to color things yellow to provide definition... It kinda works the same as looking through yellow lenses. With only my HIDs on, the light is too crisp when the light is flat like during rain or fog. I don't have yellow fogs but they're just stock halogen and "yellow enough," they actually work I can see a lot better with them on... Since mine are "integrated" I only use them during weather/lighting that warrants firing them up.
