5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I think rain-x is awsome hah. Its so cool when you drive fast and all the water just beads up and is blown away, and no messy wiper residue. So what do you guys think about window wax?
I use rain-x for the side/rear windows and glass shower enclosure. It is not durable enough for the windshield. Treat yourself to Aquapel (google it). O'Reiley's sells it here in Louisiana. Perfect for your windshield. Price is high but easily lasts 6 months with no streaking. Be safe!
You know that is pretty much why I left SoCal, because it rarely rained summer/fall, and everthing was brown and dry for more than half the year. Funny thing is I came to NC and now we are in an exceptional droubt, one of the worst is recorded history. I just can't seem to escape it!
As for Rain-x, I've never tried. I just always keep a good set of rubber on, and no chattering, screaching or wiper marks.
I picked up a bottle of the window wax but definately prefer the original RainX to the wax version. It's just like wax in the sense that it leaves a bunch of residue/chunks as you try to remove it. Won't be getting the window wax again, but I might try some of the alternatives listed sofar.

Spend $3 and get a bottle, you'll find that you'll use your wipers so little that they'll become dry rotted and torn apart before you even notice.
I love them big mother thunderstorms where everyone around me has their wipers on warp speed, mine aren't even on (I hate wipers) and I can see better than anyone else.
To further add... The regular Rain-x bottle will give you all kinds of instructions, application periods etc... Don't bother. In 20+ years I've found you can:
1. Smear the stuff on the filthiest salt/dirt encrusted windshield without first cleaning the windshield.
2. Forget buffing it off, wash the car instead
3. I apply it maybe 4 times a year and have no issues, I live in Chicago and deal with Chicago weather, my driving habits may differ.
4. Never put the stuff on windows you might use when it is wet outside... In my case I do not do the driver/passenger front windows. What happens is if you crack the window for any reason at any speed, water runs up the window and into the car.
5. Don't put it on plastic, like headlamps... Basically I do: windshield, rear window, sunroof, rearview mirrors (once), and passenger rear windows.
Get 2 shot glasses, fill them both, take a shot, spit it all over the window, wipe clean, then take the other shot for yourself. Do this for each window. By the time you've done all the windows you're so plastered you could care less if they are clean or not.

Thanks for the laugh. That's a keeper

and here I thought you were going to talk about how to get water spots outta your glass. Drinking while you're cleaning your car is not the best idea. You completely lose track of time and your GF gets pissed you aren't paying attention to her.
