Did your dealer install the Body Plugs

Part of the PDI process is to install plugs in the tie down shipping holes.

The attached TSB shows were they should be.

Body Plugs

On my 2007 XLE the plugs are recessed so if you can fill a rubber plug when you stick your finger in the hole your dealer did it right.

On the RAV4 forum there were a lot of east coast dealers that didn't install them and owners had to go back and get the PDI item done correctly

As the TSB states
Quote:

If the rubber body plugs are NOT securely installed, road (tire) noise will transfer to
the vehicle interior through the torque box holes and rust may occur inside the torque
boxes by water entry.

It only affects Japanese built cars, right? Or is this a different plug than the ones in the bumpers for tie downs during shipping?

Per the linked pdf, they're on the underside of the car, not the bumper holes on the Jap only models

They usually leave them in the bag in the glovebox.

Which makes me wonder why US Toyota dealers never complete the Toyota PDS check list and give it to the customer as part of delivery to show what has been done

Toyota PDS checklist

Specifically items 04 and 12

My XLE had 04 done but not 12

Couldn't you just bring your vehicle back and have them complete PDS 12?

So where do you stick them in the compass??

Item 12 refers to compass calibration

You wouldn't even know it wasn't calibrated correctly unless you did the procedure yourself and noticed it was set for the wrong zone.

The procedure is on page 267 of my 2007 owners manual

Sometimes the dealer doesn't perform the PDI. It depends on where you live.

In most cases, the dealer is supposed to do it.
