5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I asked this question in another thread but later found out it was for a gen 5 camry. I want to get new tires specifically the Goodyear eagle F1 all seasons but the closest size I can find that will fit the stock rim is 235/50/17. This is almost exactly the same diameter as the stock tires.
So my question is will I have any problems with this wide of a tire on the stock rim? I know it will fit on the rim but Im most concerned with it rubbing the inside of the wheel wells when turning. I see a lot of people with wider tires but I dont know if they are using spacers, which I dont want to if I can help it. Also anyone think this wide of a tire will look funny on a 7" wide rim? thanks
Once my stock 215/55/17 tires (on SE rims) wears out, I am also thinking upsizing to 235/50/17 since I like a wider look and it is almost an exact diameter to stock.
It may be a few more years though, since I have dedicated winter tires, so my mileage is spread across 2 set of rubbers. I am wondering if anyone has actually done this already. Is anyone riding on 235/50/17 on the stock SE rims?
i have 225/50/17 on my stocks and they ride great (they are winter tires though)
235 might be a tad too wide imo because the 7" wheel might be too narrow for the 235
The specs for the 235/50/17 tire that I am looking at says it will fit a 6.5 to 8" rim and I confirmed this with a guy at tirerack. I am still curious if other have done this yet though.
Hmm the tire I want comes in 225/50/17 also. I was only looking at the 235/50/17 because it was the same diameter as the stock but the 225 only changes the speedometer by 1mph so maybe I will go with that size.
Why would you put such a high performance tire like the F1 on a camry, Honestly?

The tire that I was originally looking at was the avid v4s but I have read several reviews that say it is not very good in the winter. The F1 all season looks like a much better tire and is only $20 more each with the rebate going on now. I really wanted something that has about the same performance as the toyos that came on it, with all season capability.
