Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Took the car (4cyl) in for an inspection and I thought might as well have them change the oil too. But I just notice on the invoice they charged me 5qts. I think the 2.4 only requires a little over 4qts (I normally only use 4qts myself), now are they charging you for a full quart because they have to use a little bit extra or do they actually fill all 5qts? I just checked the dipstick and its about a qtr of an inch over the mark. is this ok?

Probably would be best if you both used the correct amount of oil.....
Ask the dealer how much they used and if there is a problem!!!!!!!!
Following the instructions in the owners manual with regard to refill quantity and using a new dealer filter, I've noticed that the oil level in all 4 has always been above the full mark after an oil change with time for the oil to settle.
If your car holds 4.2 qts., you're going to get charged for 5 qts. Should they give you the left over qt?
If they have one to give, maybe so, but some dealers use guns to refill with.
Given all of the things that can go wrong when a dealer works on a car, I wouldn't worry much about a little oil.
If they actually changed the filter and added close to the right amount of oil, consider yourself lucky.

Lol yep. So many horror stories i've read here about shop oil changes i think i agree.
And usually they are not going to have left over oil to give because they use bulk oil from 50 gallon drums.
Could be worse, V6 need 6.4 quarts! I think if a dealership uses a pump to fill, they should be able to charge for the nearest 10th of a quart. That'd be like putting 11.2 gallons of gas in your car but getting charged for 12. Change your own oil, you'll still buy 5 quarts (7 for V6) but get the oil you paid for and you know it's done right.
Thnx for all the advices. The first time I changed the oil in this car, I used 4 1/3qts. I checked it several days later and it was way over the mark. So now I'm only buying 4qts and its still right at the max dimple.
