Putting SE wheels on a LE Camry (07) issue!

Well, I just found out the hard way that you cannot put 17" SE rims on a LE that came with 15" steelies without having the tire pressure sensor go off.

Just a heads up to all you guys who want to put 17" SE rims on your LE with steelies the LE Camry is NOT compatible with 17 SE rim tire sensor.

I just wasted like 4 days of my car sitting at the dealer.

Wish there was a way to remedy this? I hope they don't charge as I had no idea and never knew the tire pressure sensors are completely different on the 17" SE rims and 15" steelies. DOH!

What was the matter? It wouldn't fit?

If thats the case, I read a thread somewhere that involved a guy modifying the TPMS to fit..

Good God.......So Wrong!!!!!!!!!!

What 15" steelies?? Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The tire sensors are the same, not different!!!!!!!!!

The 7 digit number (transmitter ID) on any replacement tire sensors or tires with tire sensors them have to registered in the ECU by the dealer. It's that simple!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you don't have the number, the tires will have to be dismounted to read the numbers.

The first reply was lame too!!!!!!!!

Are you sure the dealer isn't jacking you around???
I just did this 2 days ago.
1. I bought a set of TPMS from 07 Camry LE steelie on ebay from the LKQ Corp.
2. I brought my car to my dealership. The service advisor didn't think it would fit. I asked if I can talk to the wheels/tires specialist. (each dealership has at least 1 person)
3. The specialist look at my Lexus GS rims and my TPMS from ebay and said it should fit. If not, we will not charge you. If it works, we'll charge you 1 hour of labor.
4. An hour later, my car was done with 4 TPMS inside my rims+tires and the Tire sensor light on the dash board finally went away (it has been 10 months) after he reprogrammed them. He also told me, I could have write down the serial number of each sensor with the exact wheel location (FR,FL,RR,RL) from any local tire shop then bring it in so he can reprogrammed them.

From what I understood the onboard computer in the car that reads the sensors in the rim are different on the LE (15" wheels) and the SE (17" wheels). This is what I was told anyway.

There is no chance they try and bill me for this warranty work is there?

Wait a second. Your saying that the transmitter ID on my new 17" wheels has to be registered in the ECU? Meaning the ECU does not recognize the serial numbers on these 17" wheels which never came on my car?

That seems so silly that a transmitter ID would have to be registered. I guess the dealership doesn't want to find out what those IDs are?

Like, Yes, Doh.............

Quit discussing about non-existent 15" wheels. They should have been 16"!!!!!!!!!!!

There is no warranty work and they should bill you for their work.

It's your screwup.

Since a good number of forum posts contain misleading/wrong information, check it out in your Service manual!!!!

Ummm if u think about it, its not that silly. Alot of new cars come equipped with this feature. So to keep the system from not mixing up signals from another car the TPMS is registered to the ECU.

Did you take the sensors out of our existing rims and put them into your 20s? No need for the thread crapping.

njerald, my bad you are correct they are 16" steelies. Yes, I now get how it makes sense that the sensors are unique to the car's ECU and how that is beneficial. Wish I knew this a week ago. I suppose the only remedy is to take out the sensors from my 16" steelies and then put them into my new 17" SE rims. Lesson learned!

It is a well known fact that the TPSs are interchangeable but they are mated to your car from the factory. What is retarded is that the car has been at a dealer for 4 days....WTF for ??? This should go something like this...

You:
I bought 17s with sensors in them and put them on my car, now my light is on

Service advisor:
You need them programmed for your car OR you need to swap them over, take your pick, have a nice day @!@@@

That assumes that he told the dealer that he had other tires/wheels/sensors installed rather then go in and scream warranty!!!!!!!!!
