I know this probably have been covered before but I'm not seeing it in the search....
I have the oem tires, Bridgestone Turanza EL 400 (215/60R16), that came with my hybrid, only about 28, 500 miles on it and the tires are already worn out....
Checked on tirerack....the treadlife warranty is 50k miles....
Anybody else exprience this issue?
I've read reviews on these tires and it seems pretty common that these tires go out around 30k miles....
guess I won't be going with these tires...in case if you wonder if I drive harsh or anything....it's all normal driving....
yea those tire wear out fast. i have the same tire on my stock wheel too. they are just cheap ass tire that cost too much money. my next set of tire is going to be falken 512 they are good and pretty cheap for the price.
Yep, you're not going to get great quality tires OEM on the average vehicle these days.
I had to laugh at my dealer's "Free tires for life!" offer, if I have all service work done at the dealership. First of all, I just don't even trust a dealer's service monkeys to remember to put oil back into the car after they drain it. Secondly, I've been going to the same independent shop for 25 years to have that kind of work done, and I walk around the car and talk with the tech every time I go there. Ultimately, though, who would want to keep on putting those crap tires back on the car, anyway?? I'll cheer when they wear out, and go find something near the top of Tire Rack's reviews, instead of something near the bottom of the list.
First of all, I have the same tires and they need to be replaced now at about 30K miles. Is there a difference in quality from the OE tires put on the car at the plant as opposed to the tire bought locally from the new car dealer? Local dealerships don't get their tires from the plant, they get their tires from local tire companies. So, would it make sense that the car manufacturer buys these tires of lesser quality in bulk and that's the reason they don't seem to last as long as the tires bought locally. Also, keep in mind that there is a Turanza EL400 and EL400-02 and the OE tires are the EL400-02 which have tread life of 260, while the same size tire of the EL400 has a tread wear of 640. HUGE difference.
I was just at Town Fair Tire last week talking to one of the tire guys there (pretty funny listening to these guys, the equivalent of getting a helpful person at Best Buy!!) and he basically said the tire that the manufacturer gets are of lesser quality and therefore wear out prematurely. I don't necessary believe what this guy says, but it makes sense.............damn, one burnout and I need new tires!?
To somewhat answer your question, it seems the lifespan ranges from 27,000 to 35K miles depending on how you drive. For me, I drive very aggressively, needed tires at 27K and like njerald said he'll get about 35K and he has stated elsewhere that he drives very conservatively.
This paragraph was taken from Tirerack....
Treadwear Grades
UTQG Treadwear Grades are based on actual road use in which the test tire is run in a vehicle convoy along with standardized Course Monitoring Tires. The vehicle repeatedly runs a prescribed 400-mile test loop in West Texas for a total of 7,200 miles. The vehicle can have its alignment set, air pressure checked and tires rotated every 800 miles. The test tire's and the Monitoring Tire's wear are measured during and at the conclusion of the test. The tire manufacturers then assign a Treadwear Grade based on the observed wear rates. The Course Monitoring Tire is assigned a grade and the test tire receives a grade indicating its relative treadwear. A grade of 100 would indicate that the tire tread would last as long as the test tire, 200 would indicate the tread would last twice as long, 300 would indicate three times as long, etc.
The problem with UTQG Treadwear Grades is that they are open to some interpretation on the part of the tire manufacturer because they are assigned after the tire has only experienced a little treadwear as it runs the 7,200 miles. This means that the tire manufacturers need to extrapolate their raw wear data when they are assigning Treadwear Grades, and that their grades can to some extent reflect how conservative or optimistic their marketing department is. Typically, comparing the Treadwear Grades of tire lines within a single brand is somewhat helpful, while attempting to compare the grades between different brands is not as helpful.
So, put simply, Toyota put a cheap tire on their cars. These tires are supposed to have tread warranties of 50K (Applies to H & V-Rated Tires) and 70K (Applies to T-Rated Tires), so that's why I think they are of lesser quality that Toyota gets directly from the tire manufacturer.

This is sad if true...I can't believe Toyota would do that but than again I guess they are out there to make $$$....
Put me in the group...38.7K miles and the tires are at the wear markers on my 07 Camry CE...will get them changed this week...never had a new car on which tires went out this quick, but I think I'm still better off than some others who have had to change them at 25K....goodbye Bridgestone Turanza EL-400 this week...
3000 miles on my Turanza's, and was wondering if a better tire would noticeably improve lateral stability in crosswinds on a stock 09 LE.
My OEM is this Turzanza and it's an SE V6.

So far I have 45K miles on it. Looking for new 1.
I want the Yokohama V4s. 60K miles. But I don't have any1 I can trust to mount it. I am also considering going with Costco. But that's about $100+ more expensive.
