Stalling and VSR/Trac Off

History:

My friend and I did a brake job on his 03 Camry since the dealer quoted $1000. We replaced front rotors/pads and rear pads. A pretty easy job actually.

Prior to the brake job, it had a CEL that we had checked. We were told that it was corrosion on the gas cap. We cleaned it up and put some grease on the seal. Then cleared the codes by disconnecting the battery.

Problem:

Now the car will not idle at a stop. It shuts down like the key was turned off. So we took it to see if there were any stored codes in the ECU that maybe did not activate the CEL. There were none.

I did a search here as well. A number of people said it will clear up on its own and that the ECU needs to "re-learn" or something. I drove it for about 1/2 an hour but it actually seems like it's worse. It certainly isn't getting better at least.

Now on top of that, the VSR/Trac Off light came on right after we had the codes checked. This was about 40 miles after the brake job and immediately after the code check.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me? I am stumped.

The good news? The CEL isn't on.

Thanks,
Dave

Update

I checked for vacuum leaks and found none. Anywhere that is not obvious I should check?

I read another thread about people having complaints with the fly by wire throttle. I have to agree with them now. I would love to just turn up the idle to get him down the road for the time being until he can bring it to a dealer.

I just wanted to update for those who may have the same issue.

The stalling did clear itself up as others have stated but it took a good three hours of driving. I'm a bit surprised it takes that long bit at least it's all better.

The traction control light never did go out though. He ended up bringing it to the dealer and they were able to reset that. For a mere $84. What a rip off. They did say there was nothing wrong. It must have had something to do with the scan we had done at the local parts store.
