The Taco that Toyta sells in North America is different than the Hilux that is found in the rest of the world mainly because of how it's used. In NA, the Tacos are designed more for comfort because they are used a passenger or personal vehicles. In the rest of the world, Hilux are used for work so they have to be more capable.
those were the days.....
shame we never had the diesel pickups here....those hiluxes are indestructible
eve our north american yota trucks were indestructible...i still see them come through the dealership sporting 300+ k miles
Actually, we did. My dad bought a 1984 Toyota Pickup similar to the one in the Top Gear Video, but was 2WD. Only had it for about 50K miles, but it was one of the most trouble-free Toyotas we owned. Nothing broke.
It was reliable, but really really slow. That 2L Diesel engine made 70 HP! The following year, the 2L-T engine was introduced (turbocharged) and made more power, but still less than what a stock 22R engine made.
You couldn't get it in a SR-5 model either.
