Gen6 Brake Noise

I have an 07 Camry, 4 cylinder. I am wondering if anyone has experienced a "scraping" sound from their rear brakes. The sound can be heard as the wheel turns, like something rubs as it goes around. It seems more apparent when the parking brake has been on or when the car has sat for several hours. it is definitely coming from the back.

My dealer has done a brake service and the brake kit, but the problem is still there.

Does anyone know if the parking brake system is separate from the disc brakes? My thought is that the parking brake is sticking or parts are misaligned.

Thanks.

The parking brake is a drum system inside the rotor assembly if that makes sense. Single piece of steel with shoes around the axle like a drum brake with the rotor blade used for normal braking. It might have gotten wet enough to generate some rust and that might be what you hear. You probably need to take the wheel off, turn the rotor and see if the sound is from the caliper or from the drum/shoes.

Take it back. There shouldn't be any scraping/dragging noise from the rear brakes. If the dealer says its normal, ask them to show you on the demo camrys how they make the same noise. Again, you shouldn't hear and scraping noise.

They did this service? Perhaps they have mis-adjusted the parking Brake?

Yes they did the kits front and rear. But it is a different sound from that squeal, which I've had from the front. Glad they did the kits, but not the solution to my problem.

i think your are describing a different issue toyocam08. My noise is from the rear brakes, most noticeable at low speeds. It is the sound of something scraping/rubbing, like metal on metal.
