they asked if i wanted the service or oil change..
I asked them the cost difference in the two.
The price for the service is 299.00 and for the oil change 59.99
my question is what the hell do they do for service? and does the oil change include tire rotation and air cabin filter clean? Also, what oil do they use?
Does it make sense for me to go Meineke instead?
Thanks.
PS: i would do the oil change myself had I a nice driveway.
Uh...they change the oil, rotate tires, possibly change the air filter, and check a bunch of stuff like inspect brake wear (which takes about 30 seconds total if they are rotating the tires).
jus had my 15xxx service last friday. dealer recommended: trans fluid replacement, oil change, tire rotation etc. but the camry's transmission doesnt need to be changed til (100000 miles?) so the dealer marked $20 off from the original cost of 15xxx service.
15xxx service: $179.99
for camry: $59.99 oilchange service
$99.xx for the recommended service
$160.xx total. (wait time 2 hrs)

It appears as if you have very few (if any) of your facts straight. You're the one that's supposed to ask them what each service consists of. Asking an internet forum what they are charging for isn't going to help figure it out.
They have a 59.99 package that does oil change, tire rotation, and air pressure check and tops of all fluids..
They then have a 299.00 package that they say is "TOYOTA RECOMMENDED" at 15000 miles.. which does a whole lot more... though most of it seemed like visual inspection... i thought that wa a ripoff...
The 15,30,45, etc services are all just visual checks. Basically your paying them to look at your car and find ways to make you spend more money. Completely worthless.

read your manual, tells you exactly what to do. most of that you can do yourself.
Consulting with the maintenance schedule is a very good idea. However, many things are not listed that really should be done as needed. Examples are; A/C refresher service, cleaning the throttle body, tire balance, and alignment. Some of those things were probably included in the 15,000 mile service the dealer was trying to sell you. $299.00 is too much at the 15,000 mile interval anyways.
By the way, your Service Advisor sucks and you should get a different one. If you walked away thinking an oil change was $59.99 and a 15,000 mile service was $299.00 he wasn't doing his job. I would recommend that you use a different advisor next time you go in.
