Hi,
I'm curious why the smart key doesn't have a setting so that when you walk away from the car it will automatically lock the doors. Unless I am completely missing something the only way to lock the doors when you are leaving is to press the button on the smart key (or touch the handle button). You can unlock the door when you get to the car without touching the key; you can start the car without touching the key. But it seems you DO have to touch the key (or the handle) to lock the car when you leave.
(I know it's possible to do it automatically. my 1993 corvette has this feature on its fob).
Thanks for any comments.

desentrix,
Thanks for the reply. I did read the manual (I thought carefully.. though I may well have missed something..lol) I saw the section on changing settings of the locking/unlocking settings, but they didn't seem to address the smart key just moving away from the car locking the doors and arming the security system.
If I just walk away with the smart fob I can go back to the car without the fob and the doors will open. If there is a page number to reference I would appreciate it. (I have the hybrid if it makes any difference. I assume the smart key would work the same on all of the models)
Nah, it's probably some safety feature in case you still haven't gotten your kids or dog out of the car.
Well, it could set the time delay to two minutes. This should be plenty of time for me to walk around to the other side of the car to open the passenger door.

If you have a smart key, all you do is touch the rubber sensor on the door and the doors lock....the uncertainty of whether your doors locked, or if someone got in your car in that 1 or 2 minutes after you walked away in a parking lot is unacceptable

I have several occasions that I forgot to touch the rubber button on the door and left the car unlocked. If some body got into the car because it is unlocked this is equally unacceptable. Do you ever forget to lock a car before?

the beep sound confirms that youve locked the door when you press 'lock', maybe next time you leave your car you should listen for it. i think its a precaution in favor for people who always forget to take things with them when they leave the car, namely the car keys...
