5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
In 3 weeks I will be fullfilling a childhood dream and going to Green Bay to see Brett Favre and the Packers at Lambeau Field. It will be the first time taking a long trip like this. So I was wondering should I get my car looked at before going on the trip? It just had an oil change and tire rotation about a month ago so I would think it would be alright but I don't want any problems on this trip. Also I was wondering about cruise control, I've never used it and my dad never used it on any trip we took, so I was wondering what are the benefits of using it?
Check and adjust tire pressure, including on pony wheel. Cruise control makes sure you don't need to give gas anymore. And it also leads to the most efficient operation of the car at the set speed (i.e. uses the lowest gear possible, no sporadic gas, etc).
However if you're still in your break in period, then do not use cruise control yet.

Have fun with your road trip. It's a new car so you don't need any additional service. You should check the basis like check the folowing to make sure they are at the recommending level:
oil
coolant
coolant reserve
brake
power steering
tires psi
If you have a second set of headlight bulbs then bring it with you.
Other than that just fill up the gas and have fun!!!
For the cruise control, the benefit is better mpg assuming you're on flat surface most of the time. It also let your right foot rest during the long trip. The downside? You can fall asleep easier because it's kinda boring using the cruise control. I usually don't use the cruise control more than 1 hour because I like to feel the car through my pedal.

So if you have cruise controll on you cannot hit the brakes?
The cruise control will be disarmed when 2 things happened:
1. You stepped on a brake pedal or
2. you manually turn off the cruise control button
You have never use the cruise control before?
As Njerald said, you should read your owner manual about cruise control.
For the statement "break-in", that the "break-in" perior for new engine. You should not be driving the same speed on a new engine for a long period of time (the cruise control does just that)
You should drive normal with variations of speed to allow your engine parts to wear out normal.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but, will it also disengage if you hit on the gas pedal?.
if the weather is bad, do not use the cruise control.
there have been accidents that happened while using cruise control on wet or icy roads as the cruise control hit a pool of water or an icy patch the wheel would then spin much faster and as soon as your tire hit the pavement would eventually push your car much faster than you have anticipated.
other than that use your cruise as you please and you will see how more it helps on the fatigue factor for long drives aside from the fact that it will also save you some gas in the process.
Yeah I have never used it before and as many trips as my fam has taken, my dad never used cruise control even though every car he he has had since 1988 has had cruise control. So I've never even seen it in use.
before you leave, go on a hwy and just test it out, and get used to setting your speed, and engaging "coast" when you need to slow your speed (not stop) it saves using the brakes.
i think you should check your portholes before the trip, make sure thier funtionality is good, make sure there is clear breathability between your engine bay and the fake hole. the LAST thing you need on a road trip is a failed porthole. trust me! it renders your car useless!
are yall for real??? people dont know how to use cruise control????

cruise control is NOT the most efficient way to operate a car. as if everyone doesnt already know that...
