5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Oh.....
then should I get the V6??
=___="
I am new to Camry. When I test drive the 2008 V6, it seems like I can feel that flare.
But it doesnt appears on my IS350. Isnt they are using the same engine and tranny?? I know it is 2GR FSE and 2GR FE.....
Why is the Camry has the shifting problem?!
I am helping my uncle to buy a Camry/Accord, he needs a family car and I dont want him to get any trouble. He is going to drive this car untill it deads.

The IS350 uses the A760E transmission, which is an entirely different unit than the U660E that is used in the Camry V6 and ES350. The IS350 also uses a different version of the 2GR-FE featuring direct injection.
The later builds of the Camry V6 are appearing to be less problematic than the early ones. Nevertheless, if you decide to purchase one, I'd highly recommend purchasing the Toyota factory extended warranty contract. You can purchase a plan that covers the powertrain and most other components for $695 from an online Toyota dealership.
The new '08 Accord's transmission shouldn't be fairly reliable. Honda has corrected their transmission issues since '04. I'd still recommend purchasing the extended warranty though, as Honda's factory plans cover the vehicle for eight years or 120,000 miles for $900.

Can you please recommend a dealer that sells the extended warranty for $695?
I've got an '08 SE V6 - only 2500 miles though. So far, no problems. May be too new for any flare issues. I would hope they have resolved them by now. That is one reason I waited for the '08's to come out.

Why not5 just say the IS350 is "rear wheel drive" as opposed to the "front wheel drive" Camry... End of discussion.
FWIW - the flare has been found in 2008 - - ES350s AND Camry V6s.

It's too soon to say. Flare issues usually don't show up for several thousand miles. As far as I know, there are no changes in the powertrain to the vehicles for 2008, so one day vehicles could be rolled down the assembly line being tagged 2007, but 2008 the next. I'll admit, the late build 2007 models did have fewer complaints regarding flare, so it is a sign that the situation is improving.
