Gen6 ECU reset...

I heard you can reset the ECU by taking off the neg. battery cable and letting it rest for a while.

I also heard that most newer cars now days, have some kind of memory that learns your driving habits over time and adjusts the way the vehicle shifts between gears based on what it has learned:

example: if you have a lead foot and brake aggressively, the car will down shift faster (harder) when you are driving normally. is that true?

could this be what some people experience, or is that the TSB Harsh downshift for I4's that people are having prob's with?

thanks in advance for your input.

i disconnect the POSITIVE to reset the ECU, although on some newer cars this is pointless since they are so intelligent

and yes, a lot of newer cars have intelligent systems in place that attempt to "learn" driving habits to make better adjustments for acceleration/deceleration and various other things

so whether it is the pos. or neg., if you do this, will it reset the ECU "driving learning"...

or should i just take it in for the TSB 2650 for I4 since i am experiencing this.

You are correct.

However, the TSB for the harsh downshift will not be affected by resetting the ECU.

well, i took the cam into the dealer with the TSB in my hand for the harsh down shift issue.

as soon as i pulled up for my service appt., i explained again the down shift issue then handed him the TSB i printed from here.

right away he looked at me with a serious face and asked, "where did you get this?"...

i was like, "uh, toyota nation dude..like everything else." i mean, do the service people think that we are dumb and don't know how to download off the net?

anyway, car was in the shop for about 8 hours, the ride is smoother than before. and the best part about all of this is that it was free.
