5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I am thinking about gettin the 07/08 SE V6. I was trying to decide between the Hyundai Tiburon (sporty look) or the SE (luxary look)
The tiburon GT limited msrp 21-22k
The SE v6 msrp starts at 25 (if im not mistaken)
and after i got leather interior, nav system. it would be 28K+
what i was wanting to do once i got the camry was
-hopefully get a black se
-black out the windows
-18"s - 20"s (not sure) chrome rims.
-chrome mesh grille
-chrome moldings, door handles, ect.
and then the lowering..
i was thinking about bags? so i could have it low, but when i needed to get up somewhere, just pop it up stock for a minute.
because i dont want to get loweing springs and worry about bottoming out in some places ..
what do you guys think?
and if ur wondering why get the SE but go for the "luxury look" and not the XLE. well i wanted the nice sporty exterior, while going for the nice luxury interior..
SE looks like a sports sedan, hints the SE badge, the hyundai well theres really nothing nice to say about it besides its a cheap korean car. i believe it doesnt even have a full 200 horses, i maybe wrong. Though hyundai has stepped up their image to compete with honda and toyota, reputation wise it doesnt compare. My friends who all have their sporty little cars, love how the toyota whips around. Its such a sleeper car, no one expects it to be quick but it is.

all feedback, ideas, ect greatly appreciated.
Here is my suggestion:
-hopefully get a black se --> good choice
-black out the windows --> good choice
-18"s - 20"s (not sure) chrome rims. --> Get the 18" for quality ride or
19" for the look. Get the black chrome or the hyper-silver or gun-metal would look nice on black color.
-chrome mesh grille --> It just stand out too much for the black color. It would just stay with the stock SE grille.
-chrome moldings, door handles, ect. --> again, it will stand out like a sore thumb.
I have the chrome mesh grille, chrome door handles but my car is silver so it doesn't stand out that much compare to black car. I just removed my chrome windows post because it didn't look right.
and then the lowering... Make sure you get the TRD/Eibach springs.
Good luck and have fun modding!

I've had both and it all depends on where you are in life at this moment. During college I bought a Tiburon and it was a fun little car to drive, miles ahead of anything from Detroit. Good build quality and great on gas. I graduated, got a job and bought a Camry for something that is a bit more practical. But I've since sold both the Tiburon and the Camry, and now I'm close to getting the new C class Mercedes...so it all depends.
The Hyundai was the perfect car to finance while I was 19 and in the military going to school part time, I bought a Toyota after all that and my first adult job, and now I'm about a signature away from driving a Mercedes a year into law school. Can't go wrong with a Camry though,

so if i get a silver SE, the chrome mods would be ok..? im thinking its going to be pretty hard to get the black se, seeing that the only one that i have seen is when u build ur own. so im guessing they dont make many of them.

second.. so im guessing bags are a bad idea?
If you are thinking of silver and want to see how chrome look...just click on my signature for "my car site".
There is a member here name "Bostonballer" his car is black with 19" chrome rims + bags. It looks really HOT. I don't know much about bags so I won't comments on that.

not to burst your bubble but id take a new camry V6 over a C class mercedes any day....i dont need a namplate to love a car, and why would i pay more for a mercedes when i can have a camry comprably equipped and with more power? the name means nothing to me.
and to the OP, you cant really go wrong with either car....the camry is more comfortable and powerful, and the SE is sporty in its own right....the tibby is a fun lil car, and it is suprisingly well equipped and well built for the money...id say go camry for practicality and comfort, but neither is a bad choice.
the black se on page 4, its not his, someone elses, it had what looked like 20s black, w/ chrome lip.. and had the chrome mesh grille..
the bags look pretty bad ass.. and i am also ignorant of a air-bag system.. anyone here have any idea about the cost of the bag system? for the se?
as far as 20's... i love how they look, but like u said, i dont want to have to worry about rubbin.. i'll prob just get the 18's smooth ride like luxury, but then again still have the sporty look.. if i get the black se, i'll prob go w/ the black rims w/ the chrome lip.. as far as the grille.. im just lovin the mesh grille on the silver and black..
the v6 tibby makes under 200, about 170-ish, and chrome rims on a tibby doesnt really match imo. and corcamry every car has its own distinct feel to it, even though you can get a fairly equipped camry for a lower price than the mercedes, its still two different cars, its hard to compare apple and oranges even if they are of the same quality/substance
