5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Have owned the 2007 camry SE 4-cyl for the past 6 months. I have always noticed that the interior of the car (the dashboard, mounted front mirror, and door panels) make cracking sounds as I drive over bumps on the road.
Now I admit I am a bit of a perfectionist, I also have some sound production and recording experience so the sounds that a car makes are highly noticable thing to me.
I got a letter from toyota to take the SE back for a recall to have the door sills on the driver side replaced. I did so, and now I am going absolutely crazy. The driver side door, just where the door meets the body by the seat belt mount keeps making snap, crackle, and pop sounds as I drive about daily. It even makes the cracking sound (like plastic settling, and or someone bunching up plastic - I know I sound insane), but its driving me crazy. The interior is not quiet and even when I shift or apply the brake, the slightest movement seems to make the door panel make this sound. My girlfriend tells me that I am too much a perfectionist but this bloody sound is in my ear all day and driving me into a mental hospital.
Is this SOUND normal?, Do I have a lemon?, can you shed any light on this? why does the dashboard make such crazy cracking sounds also? I have owned far inferior cars than camry in the past and I never heard such cracks, snaps, and pops from them!!! any thoughts people?
sincerely, a slowly going insane toyota camry owner!
Sounds like the same thing on my 2007 Camry SE V6. I have a plastic creaking noise somewhere on the driver side that I can hear whenever driving over anything rough or playing the radio with the slightest amount of bass. I also have the slew of creaking noises from the dash which are most noticeable when its hot and I turn the A/C on. My problem is that I have spent so much time at dealerships that its staring to affect my work schedule. Also, I hate arguing with the dealer when they won't take my word for it and must have it reproduced for them at any given time.
Does your dash line up on the front A pillars? Mine is off about a quarter of an inch and the dealer told me that its normal on all Camry's. I'll try and post a pic later.
I also have a 2007 SE 2.4L 5MT. (Built in 09/2006)
I had the same compliant with the dash creak/rattle noise when it's cold, when the outside temp is 10C or colder. I can't really pin point the source of the creaking sound as it seems it's all over the entire dash, but the worst is where the A-pillar and dash speaker corers.
The noise will go away when the interior is heated up (after 10-15min in defrost mode).
Dealer had already replaced both A-pillar covers but problem is still there.
I know there is a TSB for the dash noise issue, but it required the entire dash to be removed and add some felt paper on all the clips and mating surfaces with windshield. It’s a big job and I’m afraid dealer will end up making more damage then goods.

Hi Slowy Going Insane Toyota Camry Owner,
Why don't you go test drive a few 07/08 Camry to see if they have the same SOUND as yours? If they don't, then you know it's not normal so you can ask the dealer to fix it. If after 3 or 4 different cars then it's might you have such high expectation from a Camry. Maybe a Lexus would be quiet enough for you.
Just a suggestion to keep you from going insane.
Sincerely,
Happy Toyota Owner.

can you post the tsb number? i have the same problem and it drives me nuts too!
this noise would bug me alot too if it were my car, its a shame you didnt notice during the test drive - this type of fault is unacceptable and i think i would try to get another car that is not a 2007 camry. But they are not going to do this without a lot of trouble and probably additional money from you that you dont want to and shouldnt have to spend.
like the other people are saying they are going to want to let the dealer try to fix it first like they have already tried to before. I dont know where kingston, where you live is (Jamaica?) but in california they have lemon laws if they cant fix it in a certain number of tries.
Give them a few more tries to fix this problem and if they cant, i'd raise Hell with toyota - the longer you go and the more miles you put on the car the harder it is going to be and the fewer options you will have. At least the problem is documented with them but dont let up until its either fixed, or you have another car that is satisfactory!
no I'm in kingston, ontario and not jamaica, although when it gets cold I do wish I was in jamaica!!! especially since the warmer temperatures seem to make the cars interior stop making silly cracks and pops!!!
anyway, thanks to all of you for posting. Daveart, what is a tsb?, and the tsb that you posted about the clips on the windshield, does that explain the noise coming from the door?
I guess I must be lucky in that respect.
My 2007 Camry SE V6 does make a crackling noise in the dash for a few minutes after starting the car when it's real cold outside.
But it goes away quickly.

I've got an 2007 LE V6 that has the same dash/windshield rattle when it gets cold, and a really annoying b-pillar rattle, where the door meets the frame. It's a shame because other than the rattles, and the discomfort of my cloth seats, i love the car

2 TIMES....
except its hot here, and crack noises happen when the a/c first turns on, then goes away.
