Gen5 Power Steering

Anyone running Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF for their power steering? Mobil 1 is Recommended for use in vehicles specifying Dexron III, Dexron IIIE, Dexron III-H. Did you notice any change in the handling of the car? I am thinking about making the switch to Mobil 1 synthetic ATF for my power steering, But I need some input. Thanks

The use of Mobile 1 is going to minimize wear of the internal seals and metal surfaces but it is highly unlikely that there would be any change in the force required to turn the car. It isn't going to hurt anything to use Mobil 1 but your benefit will be seen in longevity of the system, not ease of movement.

I have Mobil 1 synthetic ATF in the power steering of my Formula. It works just fine and is extremely quiet. As noted above, it doesn't and won't have an affect on effort.

I dont know about your car but my 2002 specifies power steering fluid, not ATF. I'm all in favor of synthetic lubricants of all kinds but if toyota calls for power steering fluid in your car and not ATF, and i were thinking of switching, i'd shoot an email to toyota first and ask them what they think.

My power steering fluid calls for Automatic Transmission Fluid Dexron. It is in my Owner's manual and it is written in the power steering fluid cap to use only DEXRON II or III. Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF is recommended for use in vehicles specifying Dexron III, Dexron IIIE, Dexron III-H. I made the switch to Mobil synthetic ATF, It gets cold where I live. Mobil 1 provides an excellent low-temperature fluidity.

Nothing is wrong with Toyota power steering fluid. I just wanted to spend the extra money to get a synthetic fluid.

Wrong again. Toyota has recommended ATF Dexron for DECADES! The cap states that it's for the power steering system and "Power Steering Fluid" is in large letters on the cap. It also states in smaller letters to use fluid that meets the Dexron or Dexron II specification.

The next thing you know, you'll tell someone that has a failed accelerator pedal to buy a TPS to fix their problem. You'll probably say that impacts are as good as torque wrenches too. Wait, you've recently done both of those things and even more...

It sure is great having someone like you to post bad information for other people to hamper their problems, learning, solutions, etc...

Maybe you'll troll behind my replies and post this and not actually contribute to the thread. Oh yeah, I forgot. You already do that too.

Nice job.
